Stay weather aware today. The models are showing activity more in northern IL (where one of our members is currently staged) but the atmospheric conditions are favorable for severe storms all across the Chicagoland area if storms were to form.

With the threat of severe weather tomorrow, I wanted to take a moment to talk about Outdoor Warning Sirens—often called Tornado Sirens. These sirens are designed to alert people who are outdoors to seek shelter; they are not intended to warn those already indoors.

To receive severe weather alerts inside your home, we strongly recommend using a NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio with battery backup or enabling Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on your mobile device. Additionally, FEMA offers a free mobile app that provides fast, reliable weather alerts from the National Weather Service. You can download it from the App Store or Google Play.

Please be sure to keep your eyes to the skies today! It appears that the threat to the Chicagoland region for tornadoes has shifted more to the south this late afternoon and evening. The storms currently moving through the area are slow and will lessen the chances of the atmosphere being able to reset for the ingredients needed for ideal tornado formation in the Chicagoland area.

This does not rule out the risks of strong winds and hail! Storms are still showing some strength according to the models.

On a couple cells in western Kansas yesterday that really sped up into a large bow echo across the state. We're targeting northeastern Colorado into Nebraska today!

Numerous threats throughout the day today.

High heat across the area poses a great risk for dehydration and other heat related illness. Take breaks often, stay hydrated, and take time to cool down.

Storms will roll through tonight with a chance to be severe with highest threat being wind. The latest model shows out arriving after 8pm, but that time is likely to move up a little bit.
