Superstar Cher led a five-year battle to free Kaavan, known as the saddest elephant in the world. After spending decades in loneliness and in abusive conditions at the Islamabad zoo in Pakistan, the animal developed serious psychological damage. “I couldn’t just look and do nothing,” the singer confessed after achieving his release. Her intervention was decisive: she financed the transfer through her foundation Free the Wild and personally traveled to Islamabad to negotiate with the Prime Minister. Thanks to her diplomatic pressure and the use of a Russian Ilyushin II-76 cargo plane, Kaavan stopped being the loneliest elephant in the world. Today, caretakers confirm that he has recovered and lives free on the 30,000 hectares of the reserve.

Every afternoon, he shows up right on schedule 🐿️

A squirrel named Rusty helps himself to snacks around a Pennsylvania farm before curling up for a cozy nap on the homeowner's windowsill. He even brings his girlfriend, Argent, along sometimes, giving the homeowner a front-row seat to their peaceful daily routine.

Gorilla screamed for help after his favorite caretaker collapsed while giving him belly rubs.

At a local sanctuary, Julius had been complaining about chest pain and a numb arm, but blamed it on the spicy food he had eaten that morning.

During his usual visit with the sanctuary’s gentle gorilla, Julius knelt down and began rubbing his belly.

Seconds later, he collapsed.

The gorilla nudged him several times, but when Julius didn’t respond, he carefully lifted him, carried him toward the enclosure door, and began screaming loud enough to alert security.

Staff rushed over, and the gorilla calmly allowed them to take Julius while paramedics were called. Doctors later confirmed he had suffered a serious heart attack, but help reached him in time.

When Julius woke up, his manager showed him the footage of the gorilla calling for help.

Julius had spent years taking care of him, but on the day it mattered most, the gorilla returned the favor.

Long face. Narrowed eyes. A look that says, “What were you thinking?” Meet the green vine snake—the Asian reptile that has become the internet’s ultimate judge.

Perfectly camouflaged in Asia’s tropical forests, this slender snake has a naturally judgmental expression that has turned it into a viral meme. It doesn’t hiss, chase, or act aggressively—it simply stares with a face that looks deeply disappointed, and somehow that’s even more terrifying.

People have been pairing its iconic expression with every bad decision imaginable, and the results are hilariously relatable.

The funniest part? In real life, the green vine snake is actually shy and peaceful. It prefers hiding among the trees and avoiding trouble altogether.

So despite looking like it’s silently judging your entire life, it’s really just trying to be left alone.

Scientists discovered that some fungi can break down one of the toughest plastics on Earth in just weeks.

Instead of taking centuries to decay, this natural process could offer a new way to fight plastic pollution and protect the planet.

A single day of traditional hunts in the Faroe Islands over 700 pilot whales and dolphins were slaughtered.

Locals defend it as a cornerstone of their cultural heritage.

The hunts, known as the grindadrĂĄp, utilize boats to herd these highly social, deep-diving mammals onto beaches where escape is nearly impossible. Despite decades of fierce international condemnation from animal welfare and conservation groups, the practice remains fully legal in the Faroe Islands.

However, modern marine biology highlights a tragic vulnerability: pilot whales belong to highly cohesive, matriarchal family groups. When one whale is herded or stranded, its pod members instinctively follow rather than abandon it, leading entire families to their deaths.

With warming oceans shifting their primary prey of deep-sea squid and commercial fisheries encroaching on their food supply, scientists warn that removing hundreds of these ecologically vital animals could have unforeseen, compounding impacts on an already stressed ocean ecosystem.

Thanks to our newly discovered friend, Jimothy we’ve gained some new friends. Let me re-introduce myself.

My name is Cooper, I have short spine syndrome, just like Jimothy. I am a 9.5 year old American Foxhound and was rescued in Virginia as a baby. They sent me to Minnesota where my friend Quasi The Great was already living, we know each other and have had sleepovers!

I am healthy and happy and other than some limited mobility and odd anatomy, I live a normal dog life. Short Spine syndrome exists in all different kinds of animals and has been documented for hundreds of years, but we are very rare.

My condition is genetic, and further research is being done to understand the genome. I am part of a study at Purdue University. That peer reviewed study should be published very soon, I will share it once it’s available.

Short Spine syndrome is adorable and I am adorable, but my goal isn’t more short spine animals. My goal is awareness, to know that we live normal lives - if we are born we don’t need to be euthanized. I am a normal family pup. Just like Jimothy is living a good raccoon life, he doesn’t need rescuing - we can admire, but he’s happy in his natural environment. We short spiners are very entertaining, so stick around to see all of my antics!
