Michael McFadden Photography

Michael McFadden Photography Photos by Michael C. McFadden Michael is a freelance photographer, living in New York City. Photography has always been an integral part of Michael’s life.

Some of his earliest memories are of crouching around an old wooden crate in his childhood home, scouring through stacks of white-bordered photos, aged and browning: chubby-legged babies in bikinis playing in backyard blow-up pools, shirtless men drinking beers on whitewater rafting trips, families reuniting over barbecues and around picnic tables covered with red checkered-cloth, neighborhood blo

ck parties, holiday gatherings, birthday parties. He was enthralled with his first Kodak camera, spending hours posing friends, snapping shots of their play dates at parks or positioning his favorite toys for just the right shot, periodically pausing to flip the flash bulb over for another set of five pictures. For Michael, photography has been and continues to be a way to savour the moment, to elevate, to remember, to memorialize.

On Sunday, Nov. 27th at 5:30pm (ET), the Bureau hosts members of the Q***r Critique Group (QCG) at Baxter St. for a presentation and panel discussion of their publication, WILDNESS. WILDNESS features work by Chris Berntsen, Ali Di Luccia, Liz Liguori, Michael McFadden, Ellie Musgrave, Marc Ohrem-Leclef, Dr. Picturesque, Kaz Senju, Jeanette Spicer, Bill Travis and Sam Zalutsky, as well as writing by renowned photographers, artists and curators Allen Frame, Katherine Hubbard, Duane Michals, Nandita Raman and Drew Sawyer. WILDNESS is inspired by Jack Halberstam’s book Wild Things: The Disorder of Desire. In keeping with the spirit of the text, the contributors were encouraged to interpret wildness in their own creative ways. Join us for a panel discussion with contributing artists Kaz Senju, Bill Travis, and Michael McFadden.

Copies of Wildness will be available for purchase at the event.

This event will take place in person at the Bureau of General Services—Q***r Division, on the second floor (room 210) of The LGBT Community Center, 208 W. 13th St., NYC, 10011.

Baxter St at CCNY launched a virtual, q***r critique group in June of 2020. This group provides artists the opportunity to obtain critical feedback on lens-based work. It also provides ongoing support to a community of q***r artists to learn, grow, and share resources.
