Our world is a world of diverse elements where beauty can be found almost everywhere. All you need to do is look for it.

I love to show the beauty of the world through my photography, whether it's the beauty of a city, the wide outdoors, or simply a flower on my dining room table. In the same world, you can find environments ranging from the densely packed urban jungle to the rolling hills of farm country to sparsely populated forests to barren Antarctic wastelands, and each of these environments possesses its own s

pecial beauty and charm. In the same world, you can find beauty in the stark majesty of the Himalayan mountains and in the sublime detail in a strawberry seed. In the same world, you can find beauty in the innocent smile of a child and in the wizened, wrinkled face of the elderly. In the same world, beauty can found in a perfect rose, a tiger, a pure white dove or in the face of an insect. Beauty can be found in structures both natural and man-made, both simple and complex. I do not pretend that a camera can fully capture the beauty, majesty and detail of the world around us. However, I do believe that a photograph can capture a part of that beauty and, in doing so, make the viewer reflect on and appreciate how breathtaking and awe-inspiring our world can be. My hope is that through my photographs, I can bring the beauty of the world to everyone. ** LANDSCAPE THURSDAY **

"Start of the River"

Lisa and I had a trip to Iceland planned for the summer of 2020. Of course, that was the year that the world shut down due to COVID, and so our trip was canceled. We made a quick alternate plan to go to Cooperstown, NY and see the Baseball Hall of Fame.

While we were there, of course, I also brought my camera to do some photography. One of the places that I photographed was Council Rock Park -- a small park in Cooperstown right on the shore of Lake Otsego. At the southern tip of the lake, there is a spot where a small stream of water leaves the lake. This stream is actually the source of the Susquehenna River, which flows from here for 444 miles and empties into Chesapeake Bay, making it the longest river on the East Coast of the United States. This photograph was taken right by the spot where the lake begins to empty out into the river.

** WATERFALL WEDNESDAY **

Shenandoah National Park in Virginia is one of the most beautiful places in the United States. The park basically runs along the Skyline Drive and has any number of pullovers where you can view grand vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains. However, there are also plenty of places to go hiking and exploring.

I found this waterfall while exploring in Shenandoah. I spent a fair amount of time trying to decide how to shoot it, as I wanted to get both the waterfall and the sun in the shot, and in the end, I had to shoot it from way down low and use a wide angle lens to get it.

** NYC TUESDAY **

The Verrazzano Narrows Bridge at Sunset. At one time, the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world, connecting Brooklyn and Staten Island. It no longer holds that title, but it still stands to join the peoples of the two boroughs and stand as a beautiful piece of architectural and engineering genius that we New Yorkers get to enjoy.

** MACRO MONDAY **

Photography has certain "rules" that good photographers apply to help achieve better photographs. You might hear photographers talk about concepts such as "rule of thirds" or "use leading lines" as compositional "rules" to help create more aesthetically pleasing photographs.

But sometimes, it's appropriate to take the rulebook and just throw it out the window. That's what I did with this shot.

I purposely kept the main subject of the photo almost completely out of the shot entirely and I lit the subject using harsh light. And yet, despite my outright rejection of these "rules," I found that I actually liked this shot far better than many of my other floral photographs.

** SUNDAY SUN DAY **

I know it's hard to tell from the photo, but this is the NYC skyline, shot from Broad Channel, Queens.

A low cloud cover hung over the city, obscuring the tops of the skyscrapers, but the sky above was clearer and the sun was almost totally visible between the cloud layers. After deciding to use the plants as a foreground, I got the shot set up and waited for just the right moment. While I am pleased overall with the result, the next time I do this shot, I'll edit out the plants sticking up on the left. :)

** LANDSCAPE THURSDAY **

Whenever I go to visit my Dad in Florida, I try to make sure to capture some sunrise shots over the ocean. One of the places I like to go is Coral Cove park in Tequesta. Most beaches in Florida are just sand, but this one has some interesting rock formations that provide a more interesting composition. This shot was taken just a few minutes before the sun came up.

Another shot from Watkins Glen, NY. This is a closeup of a waterfall that runs through the gorge and empties into the glen.

** NYC TUESDAY **

This shot of the Manhattan Bridge is one of my most-requested images. It's one that breaks a lot of the rules -- the horizon isn't straight, the main subject is shown off-kilter, there are distracting elements at the edge of the photo (the plant at the bottom of the frame) and yet, I have gotten extremely good feedback and reaction to this shot. Perhaps it's the fact that it does break so many of the photography "rules" that does it. Or maybe it's something else entirely. What do you think?

** SUNDAY SUN DAY **

If you ever get a chance to go to Acadia National Park in Maine, make sure you set some time to visit the Schoodic Peninsula. It's a separate part of the park, with a beauty and a charm all it's own (and, because it's separated from the rest of the park, you'll also have a chance to get away from the crowds).

I took this sunset shot near Schoodic Point, the southern tip of the peninsula. I was lucky to find a sunset with such a great set of clouds.
