Directed and produced by Tracy Hopkins with cinematography and editing by John Carluccio, "Rituals We Keep" is a powerful new piece from Madame Noire that explores the deep cultural, emotional, and spiritual roots of Black beauty. Through intimate conversations and reflections, Black women open up about beauty as more than appearance — it’s a ritual of self-love, healing, and legacy.

Five years ago, in November 2019, we premiered Maurice Hines: Bring Them Back at DOC NYC —and won the Metropolis Competition! Since its premiere, we have screened the film in over a dozen film festivals and we've taken home several awards, including the American Black Film Festival Jury Award for Best Documentary and the Chita Rivera Awards Winner for Outstanding Direction of a Documentary Release. Our journey included a theatrical run at the IFC Center in NYC and a widely-viewed U.S. broadcast and streaming premiere on STARZ in 2022. Since then, the film has earned a spot on the prestigious The Criterion Collection Channel and gained international exposure on Marquee TV.
