The_Artful_Spotter You can find more of on Instagram. Analog photography has changed the way I view photography. I can't wait to create for the rest of my life. x

I have always loved being behind the lens, capturing a fleeting moment, and soaking up every detail my eyes can manage to register. Before it was easy to snap without cause, but working on film makes you think. It gives you the power to manipulate, compose and capture an image as YOU see it. Then, after development, still completely surprise you. Your art, your memory, the way you saw something, i

s before you again and it is a magical feeling. My only ambition is to keep shooting and keep improving. Starting the Artful Spotter on Instagram has already opened new doors for me and I am excited everyday to see where my photography will take me next.

The Staten Island Museum's "Yes, And" exhibit is still open for viewing!

The new winters hours are Fri-Sun 11am-5pm.

Bring friends, bring family! Go check out the amazing participating artists and read about what it means to each of them to be connected to S.I. - New York's favorite "forgotten borough." :)

I am thrilled to be featured as well. Staten Island is home, and always will be!

“When I was growing up, my mother’s best friend, Jan Somma-Hammel was a photographer for the Staten Island Advance. She still is, in fact. Some of my earliest memories are of walking around the Greenbelt with her, photographing wildlife and nature with her guidance (and Nikons). Whether it’s because I grew up there or spent so much time staring at the big city from the cloudy ferry windows, Staten Island pushed me to be courageous, compassionate, and never afraid to fail. Though it is not where I live now, Staten Island is home, and I wouldn’t be the artist I am today without it.” -Alana Urcia (The_Artful_Spotter)
