Five years ago today, I photographed my friend Dayna’s wedding. What a wild time in our lives that was…it was the first large event I photographed as the world was beginning to open up. It was one of my favorite weddings to document and represented a relatively hopeful moment in time.

Scattered through my portfolio are a few images I kind of categorize as: “not sure why, but I like it.” Some quirky shots, some funny shots, and some like this where there’s just something about it that makes me happy when I see it. Alina’s dad was weaving through the crowd of guests at the during the reception, clinking glasses with friends and family. In this frame, as he was moving through, the light hit him with a bright enough spot to melt the scene behind in shadow. Rim light from the other window of screen highlighted his shoulder, while creating a perfect silhouette of another gentleman standing to allow the glass of champagne to pop. These are the kinds of images you can’t plan for (and maybe I am the only one that loves it as much as I do).
