We are excited to announce department student exhibition ‘The Rewritten Nature’ by Lang Chen (2026) on the 4th Floor gallery.
My works explore the relationship between artificial nature and an industrialized urban environment. I am drawn to the visible layers of repaired infrastructure, well-planned greenery, and carefully manicured parks embedded within dense architecture. For me, these spaces raise questions about how we have shifted from developing the natural environment to reconstructing nature for human purposes.
I integrate fine art photography into mixed material installations. My techniques include printing textures of manmade surfaces to create collages and photo transfers. Repetitive taping, visible layering, and imperfect handcraft processes reflect human intervention, planning, and control.
I am fascinated by the city's rules and how nature is redefined within them. In my work, as I unpack these conflicts, I investigate an unstable psychological space in which our desire for control and a longing for nature coexist.
On view through April 17.
