More than 10 years of photographing weddings has taught me that one of the best things about weddings is seeing all of the people who come together to celebrate a couple sort of orbiting them throughout the day. Traditional norms usually have the photographer pulling a couple away for photos throughout the day, whether it’s a first look, during cocktail hour, at sunset, etc.

I am not that photographer and it has actually taken me all of the years I’ve been doing this to realize that it’s way more complementary to my style to keep you with the people you’ve brought together—often from far away, to be present and celebrate.

10+ years has also taught me that most people don’t like being in front of the camera. Sure, there are some folks who do and we can totally have fun with that, but most of the time, the best moments aren’t the ones we’re going to fit neatly into a photo timeline or inspiration board. It’s so much more interesting to pay close attention to what happens naturally without my influence.

If you forgot I was there, I’ve done my job right.
