Under the bright lights of Times Square, the luxurious and mundane collided in an unexpected moment. This Lamborghini rolled up to the sabrett hotdog stand right in front of me. I quickly grabbed this photo before the crowd engulfed the scene.

I generally eat pretty healthy, rarely consuming hot dogs, but itโ€™s still difficult to pass up a sabrett ๐ŸŒญ truck/cart. And theyโ€™re everywhere in and around Times Square.

For this trip to NYC, I challenged myself to stick with the ultrawide 14-24mm lens. You have to look at the world a little differently when shooting with an ultrawide. I appreciate the variety of materials, textures, styles and colors adjacent to each other in a view like this, and the Chrysler Building in the back is a bonus.

Compositions like this work best when taken from the middle of the street (as opposed to the sidewalk), but being in the middle of a NYC street on foot isnโ€™t safe. I captured this one from the roof of a double-decker tour bus, safely in the middle of the street ๐Ÿ˜Ž

This Blue-grey gnatcatcher had a lot of attitude for such a small creature. It was quite active (I assume hunting) on this overcast day, but it paused in this moment, seemingly to express its displeasure with my invasion of its privacy, before resuming its activity.

I spotted this Blue-grey gnatcatcher the other day. They donโ€™t sit still for very long, so I had to employ a fast shutter to get anything in focus. Even then, there were many blurry results. The green leaves of the Crapemyrtle tree provide a nice backdrop, but the countless branches added to the challenge of capturing a clear photo.

The leaves of a Nandina shrub are surprisingly interesting. From afar, they seem thin and plain, but as you look more closely, you find unexpected details and texture. The water droplets leftover from the rain only add to their inherent character IMO.
