A proposal for J & S 🤍

These two made my job so easy. They were both so genuinely happy, kind, and completely themselves while we ran around Brooklyn. When the couple genuinely enjoys each other’s company it makes everything fall into place so easily on camera. We started at a more private little spot south of Brooklyn Bridge with the skyline behind us and then hopped through a few streets in DUMBO down toward the carousel. Just the best.

Congratulations to this couple! Wishing you a life filled with this same joy, laughter, and love. It was an honor to capture the beginning of your next chapter ✨💍

You don’t always need a dramatic location to create beautiful imagery. Some of the best images come from paying attention to the light and using what’s already around you. I mentioned scouting locations recently, but scouting for me is really just familiarizing myself with which direction to walk from one starting point. Aside from that, I never plan out where we will end up stopping or what will happen. A tree canopy that filters the sun or a graffiti wall could suddenly be “the one”. Any block with a little depth in the background can become the most jaw dropping spot.

Sometimes a handful of shots indoors and then walking several blocks down your own street is all we need.

The result feels personal because it’s connected to your everyday life, but it also gives us variety. A cozy start at home and a short walk outside is often the go-to combination!

Hey, so I haven’t done an introduction in a while 👋🏽 I’m Lindsay. I live for exploring new places and spending too much time noticing how light changes throughout the day. If there’s a scenic route, a hidden street, or an interesting neighborhood to wander through, that’s usually where you’ll find me.

A few things about me: • I love slow weekends that involve sleeping in, grabbing coffee, and seeing where the day takes me ☕️ • I’m always planning some kind of adventure, whether it’s around NYC or somewhere completely new. • I notice details. Sometimes to a fault… • When I start any hobby, it becomes a bit obsessive but it comes from a place of joy 🫶🏽 • I believe some of the best conversations happen while walking around.

Sometimes I feel like a collector of things in life, and I suppose photography is a version of me documenting and sharing all these things that I find interesting.

How do I help pick shoot locations and what I’m looking for when I’m scouting?

And it’s not just “this looks pretty”, but I feel like what works in real time when I’m shooting you.

I’m paying attention to things like:
• where the light is actually landing at different times of day
• what the background is doing when people move through it
• how crowded or unpredictable the space is
• if there are multiple spots within a short walk so we can keep momentum

And most of all, I would ask : What place or space has meaning to 𝒚𝒐𝒖?

One of the biggest questions people ask before an in-home session is whether their house gets “enough light” - and honestly, you’d be surprised how little we actually need.

This whole session was centered around natural light coming through the windows and just leaning into the mood of the space instead of trying to overpower it. I’m always paying attention to how light naturally falls into a room…the softer shadows, a glow from a lamp in the morning, or warm light coming through a veiled window.

I love working this way because it keeps sessions feeling relaxed and true to your home. No giant studio setup, no harsh lighting, no pressure for everything to feel perfectly polished. Just a cozy atmosphere, real connection, and documenting this season in a way that actually feels like being there. I feel like some of the most meaningful images come from noticing the little things and letting natural or small ambient light do its thing.

I’ve been continuing to explore new locations for inspiration and documenting places simply because they draw me in. Sometimes it’s a matter of knowing that not every spot needs to be part of that documentation and being more selective about when or what to shoot. It can be tough to resist!

Recently I spent a day wandering with fellow photographer and my trusty at the Met Cloisters and the surrounding Fort Tryon Park - chasing textures, hidden corners, fresh blooms, old architecture, and harsh midday light that creates the sharpest shadows against the softest scenery. These kinds of days always refill the creative tank in the best kind of way.

Wedding and special event days, to me, are about staying present and moving with what’s happening. I like being out with a couple, figuring things out in real time, paying attention to light, movement, and how they naturally interact. It’s a balance of stepping in when needed and letting things unfold, so the photos feel grounded in where we actually are ❤️

Warming up so we are fully ready for brighter colors and outdoor walking shoots over here. Ice cream pit stops, brownstone stoops, park exploring, and blossom hunting! Cherry blossoms have been asked about a lot in my inbox lately and they usually start end of March through most of April - including both magnolias as well as the famous cherry varieties. Saw a few of them in Japan recently but there’s no better sign of spring in NYC than the buds starting to come out!
