Whether we choose to understand it or not, the technology that we use every single day has an incredibly invasive element to it. This will only be amplified as we bring robotic devices into our homes. Through my company, Oak Forest robotics, I penned the first proposal for what the ethical guide guidelines for behavior of robots ought to be in private homes. This is incredibly important because there is no standard so we decided to set that standard.

This last week we internationally published the first standard for privacy and safety in home robotics through CERN’s research publication. Previously there was no proposed standard and so my company, Oak Forest Robotics put forth the first standard and made the first pledge to that standard. Very soon, many homes and situations will be flooded with robots of all kinds, and if there is no standard for treatment, surveillance, safety and privacy, then all of those precious boundaries will be trespassed with impunity in the pursuit of a quick buck. I’ve chosen to lead the way with a new international standard that any technology or robotics company can pledge to.
