YELLOWBELLY 101 X TALIA THIESFIELD – AUDITION PLAYGROUND

What happens when you stop trying to figure out what they want - and start bringing more of yourself into the room?

We welcomed Broadway, TV and voiceover professional Talia Thiesfield to our New York studio for an evening dedicated to authenticity, exploration and finding freedom in the audition process.

Our Audition Playground gave actors the space to slow down, experiment and step outside the pressure of having to “get it right” - whether that meant leaning into their signature type or challenging the casting box they’ve been placed in.

Because the one thing no one else can copy is you.

DOUGLAS LYONS – MULTI-HYPHENATE ARTIST ⚡️

Playwright, actor, composer-lyricist and TV writer Douglas Lyons has built a career across Broadway, Off-Broadway, television and film, with credits including Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, The Book of Mormon, Chicken & Biscuitsand Apple TV+’s Emmy-winning Fraggle Rock.

We welcomed Douglas into the studio for a conversation about embracing your full identity as an artist, the importance of collaboration, and creating work that gives Black women the space to be seen beyond the roles they’re often expected to play.

Through his “Deep Breath” trilogy - Chicken & Biscuits, Table 17 and Don’t Touch My Hair - Douglas explores the lives, joy and complexity of Black women, while challenging artists to think beyond a single creative identity.

For actors, his advice is simple: define who you are beyond the audition, cultivate your other creative skills, embrace failure, and remember that a callback is already a reflection of your ability.
