“AI Mother” May 2023
I made this image a year ago when I started thinking about AI’s implications for artists and the “soul” of AI- what AI can do to solve problems humans have not solved (poverty, hunger, healthcare, etc.)
The base image by Dorothea Lange is the famous “Migrant Mother” escaping the Dust Bowls and drought. She became a symbol of the Great Depression and female strength. The photo was taken in 1935 in Nipomo, California, and is in the public domain because the US Farm Security Administration commissioned the work to document the American migrant crisis.
Using and .journey , I generated a robot in the same position as Florence Thompson, the original subject of the image. Using my physical layering technique, I then layered the robot on top of the original image.
Yes, AI will replace jobs, but AI might also be able to make its own money using automatic market makers and other algorithmic investments, distribute it directly to people’s phones as a Universal Basic Income using blockchain technology, and thus alleviate poverty. Am I being too opitmistic or red-pilled, or do you believe this is possible?
