Europe just changed the Android AI race.

The European Commission has issued two binding measures requiring Google to give qualifying rival AI services greater access to Android and certain anonymized search data.

The Android decision covers 11 system features. These could help competing assistants respond to voice commands, understand on device context, interact with installed apps and use necessary device resources.

Google argues that broader access could create privacy and security risks. The EU says the measures include safeguards and eligibility requirements.

This is bigger than one regulatory decision. The next AI battle will not be decided only by who builds the best model. It will also depend on who controls the operating system where those models operate.

Search data measures are expected from January 2027. Android interoperability changes are expected from July 2027.

They climbed 1,454 feet to the top of the Empire State Building no ropes, no harness, just love and a flag.
This one's inspired by Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus, the Russian "Skywalkers" who free-climbed the Empire State spire on July 1st and turned it into a proposal before the NYPD arrested them.
