1962 Imperial LeBaron – Pure American Luxury Royalty! 🚗✨
Positioned at the pinnacle of the 1962 Imperial lineup, the LeBaron was exclusively offered as a sophisticated four-door hardtop (Southampton) and commanded a premium price just over $6,400—well above the Custom and Crown models below it.
1962 brought a refined evolution in styling: those dramatic tall fins from 1960-61 were tamed, giving way to sleek, elongated gunsight taillights perched at the rear tips. Up front, a nostalgic split grille recalled the iconic 1955-56 Imperials, crowned by a striking new round eagle hood ornament that debuted this year.
The LeBaron's signature formal rear window—with its squarer, more upright glass—set it apart, shared only with the Crown four-door sedan that year.
Power came from Chrysler's mighty 413 cubic-inch wedge-head V8, delivering 340 horsepower, mated to the smooth A727 TorqueFlite push-button automatic transmission. Power steering, power brakes, and power windows? All standard on every LeBaron—no compromises.
Fun fact: 1962 was the final year Imperials were built at the dedicated Warren Avenue plant in Detroit before shifting to Jefferson Avenue Assembly for '63, as the brand battled to keep pace with Cadillac's dominance.
Only 1,449 LeBarons were produced out of 14,337 total Imperials that year—rarity meets timeless elegance.
