Posted from a fellow photographer. I feel her frusteration. I am on the cheaper side because I want to offer photos to friends and family. But it does take away from my family when I am sitting there editing photos.
Hey everyone!
So I want to talk about a few things, I have received some not so friendly messages after telling my pricing. Let me break this down.
My work doesn’t stop after shooting with you. I edit close to 72 hours total AFTER leaving from taking your photos. That’s removing unwanted fly away hairs, some people like for my to remove flaws they think they have and that is very time consuming. It’s not as simple as pulling the photos off my camera onto my computer and they’re done. Us photographers don’t have magical cameras. We ourselves are the magicians and make your photos look the way they do. The camera is just a plus for the quality. After an hour of shooting with you and then plus the 72 hours of editing, that’s ALOT of work. It’s just like any other job. It takes me away from my family for those hours just like your job does you.
Now ask yourself this, would you want to work 73 hours and only make 40$?
I know I don’t. I actually don’t even make half of what other do when it comes down it it. As of right now, I’m technically only making 2$ an hour. Sounds crazy right?
BUT I know not everyone can afford 300-500$ sessions. So I keep my prices as reasonable for others as possible. But I also have to keep in mind this is my business and I can’t overwork myself for hardly nothing.
With all of that said, I hope you all understand a little better now and stop being so mean when a photographer doesn’t want to do your photos for 40$.
