AVBrown Photography, LLC The Photographer's Eye. Whenever and wherever I travel I always keep my camera at my side.

And through the photographic image I preserve not only the visual memories of people and places but also the emotions experienced while on my journey. I compose a photograph seeking the illusive view, the angle of light, the hidden colors, the time of day that, while always there, has often been overlooked. Along this path I have discovered a passion for High Dynamic Range (HDR) imagery and long e

xposures where I am able to provide greater intensity of detail in both color and light. The peaceful walk along the river, the glow and embracing warmth of the awakening and setting sun, the magic of the wonderland brought about by winter's snow. These images that fill me with a calm, lasting excitement, captured forever. Allison V Brown

“A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense, and is, thereby, a true expression of what one feels about life in its entirety.”

Making Magic with Friends

“People are like stained - glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.”

I haven’t been spending enough the time in my studio or into Jazz clubs and other music venues this year. With 5 1/2 months left, it’s time to make a plan.

I been discussing the creation of a new Black & White Series and have enlisted the help of two close friends, Penwah Penwah Thomas and Jeffrey Picasso Lindsey.

Thematically, the series and the first shoot is inspired by Powerful, Conservative, and yet Sophisticated Elegance in the Black and White images of Abbey Lincoln, Janet Jackson and others.

Together, the three of us hope, in the words of my Picasso, “Make the Magic Happen!!!”

Stay tuned.

It’s been a while since my last post. But today I am not here to post a recent image I’ve taken.

Today I come to you, my friends, my family, my followers, asking for your prayers for a dear college friend, Aleta McClam Staton. She is in the hospital today and needs all of our prayers, strength, and Love.

The photo is one of my first portraits taken of Aleta when we attended Wesleyan University.

"Think, O' God, of our friend Aleta, who is ill, whom we now commend to Your compassionate regard. That no healing is too hard if it be Your will. We therefore pray that You bless our friend with Your loving care, renew her strength, and heal her in Your loving name."

"The greatest healing therapy is friendship and love."

This is the first shoot of my Black and White Portrait Series. Glory Grullon contacted me asking if we could create something evocative, sensual, mysterious.

She brought along a red dress. Here are a few of the images we created.

The Power and the Influence of some of Harlem's Great Photographers, The Photographers of the Kamoinge Workshop.

“Kamoinge” comes from the language of the Kikuyu people of Kenya, meaning “a group of people acting together,” and reflects the ideal that animated the collective. In the early years, at a time of dramatic social upheaval, members met regularly to show and discuss each other’s work and to share their critical perspectives, technical and professional experience, and friendship. Although each artist had his or her own sensibility and developed an independent career, the members of Kamoinge were deeply committed to photography's power and status as an independent art form. They boldly and inventively depicted their communities as they saw and participated in them, rather than as they were often portrayed.

Fourteen of the early members included: Anthony Barboza, Adger Cowans, Daniel Dawson, Louis Draper, Al Fennar, Ray Francis, Herman Howard, James M. Mannas Jr, Herb Randall, Herb Robinson, Beuford Smith, Ming Smith, Shawn Walker, and Calvin Wilson. Several of these artists still live in or near New York City.

Working Together is an unprecedented exhibition that chronicles the formative years of the Kamoinge Workshop, a collective of Black photographers established...
