there is a divide in our country. the media fuels that divide. the truth is presented to the masses with political bias. our understanding of the reality of this moment in history is dictated by networks who are becoming increasingly difficult to trust. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
“To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life. “ ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
in order to see behind the walls of misinformation, we needed to see and experience and feel. we needed to document this moment in history. we needed the truth. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
this is what we saw. we saw a sea of masks. we saw a peaceful protest quickly shift to violence. we saw people of all colors crying out for justice. we saw police holding the line. we saw a group of young white men who systematically threw water bottles and fireworks into the crowd and at the police. we saw peaceful protesters attempting to stop the aggression. we saw police respond with pepper balls, flash bangs, rubber bullets, and tear gas. we saw medics giving aid indiscriminately. we saw white people defacing property. we saw black people protecting property with plastic before writing their message. we saw people on their knees with their hands in the air. we saw the police direct tear gas at those people on their knees. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
this is what we felt. we felt collective pain. we felt anger. we felt hope. we felt fear. we felt disappointment. we felt disbelief.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
human beings are in pain. this is no longer an abstract comment. black people in are hurting. this is the truth. @ Asheville, North Carolina
