11 things I'm grateful for today, Sunday, two weeks after returning home (to my place in Colombia) after 2025/26 chaos (unplanned 7 months with my parents during my mom's health crisis/death; my dad's transition; a beautiful solo rainforest trip leading to injuries, loneliness, grief; 6 weeks visiting family in NY for the holidays; and finally, 7 weeks spontaneous solo travel - DC long w/e w/ friends, 3 weeks in France to familiar places/people & 3 weeks in Morocco, totally foreign):

1. Enough recovery from previous injuries that I can sweep and mop my apartment without pain, or mental resistance saying I shouldn't bc it'll prevent my healing

2. Bluetooth headphones & the internet, for nature sounds to block annoying city noise and allow a wireless phone call with a friend in another country.

3. My neighbors and friends who helped manage my place and local bills while I was away (because I don't have a Colombian back account for various reasons)

4. Being able to land somewhere that feels like mine and comfortable after the chaotic and traumatic year I had between March 1, 2025 and March 1, 2026.

5. Having the skills, intelligence, creativity, and courage to make it through and adapt in constantly evolving situations and also to follow my instincts and dreams, even when others don't understand. (Starting years ago)

6. Understanding, patient, perseverant, and passionate clients

7. Genetic lottery and a US passport (for now) + the international diplomacy, networks and technology that allow for travel to be relatively simple, affordable and effective.

8. Recently discovering the concept of the "pattern weaver" mind

9. Being in a place where I am able to communicate easily/know more or less how to get things done.

10. Friends in faraway places who take care of you fully when you visit

11. Doctors who take post viral coughs seriously

Don't know who needs this message today. I painted this to remind myself that I matter, even when my phone is silent, no one is calling or texting, there are no fires to put out, and maybe I feel lonely.

It's been a while since I've taken any photos or posted anything on here on my main feed. This has been a really rough year for me.

It started with heartbreak and a lot of questioning myself. I did a memoir writing workshop, and in the middle of that, my mom's cancer spread to the brain. The day after hearing the news, I was on a plane to NY without any idea how long I'd be staying. I chose in the chaos of abrupt travel/packing to leave my camera.

I've also been really lost with photography over the last few years. It's hard to know what direction it'll take or the role it'll have in my life, but I burned out a lot... The changes in the technology of photography (since my start on film as a kid) from a tactile and process-oriented medium full of serendipity, mystique, and imperfections to a medium overly focused on clarity and perfecting things past the point of reality, plus the current omnipresence of images and the developments of AI... The burnout from constantly photographing other people's projects and financial pressures, the self doubt inspired by a critique from an editor, the lack of sales from my print website .... The constant pressures of social media ... All of these things have me drifting away from photography, which is honestly very confusing.

However, yesterday, after a wonderful massage, I spent the afternoon on the grounds of Buttermilk Falls Inn and Spa, and started to feel beauty. I experimented with my watercolors, and then observed nature and took some photos on my phone. It's the first time in a while that I've felt that way. Inspiration from beauty.

It's been a month since my mom passed away. And this is where I am. Exploring new art media, trying to find a new connection to photography or see how it fits now, and thinking about when I might leave NY again. And when I need to, crying.

Here is one of the pictures I took at the spa.

Are you making the most of your wall space? When displaying artwork, it’s not just about what you hang—it’s also about how you hang it.

For taller, narrow spaces, portrait-oriented art works best, while wider spaces are better suited for horizontal pieces. Keeping these principles in mind can make a big difference in a room’s flow and feel.

Another key tip: hang artwork at eye level whenever possible. The center should sit around 57–60 inches from the floor for a natural, balanced look.
