BTS showing how this A&D photo was created. Shot for a remodel company, this used the techniques I teach in my Architectural & Design Photography course and bundle at https://LearnRE.NathanCool.com For A&D work you get paid more to take the time to get everything right. As shown in the bts shots, lighting was needed everywhere, even on the outside. HDR won't cut it for clients demanding this quality of work, but simple lighting techniques and editing can. Remember, when YOU control the light, then YOU control the image.

BTS of how this was made and why lighting was crucial. Classic case when ambient light won't work in your favor, so I simply used lighting techniques I teach in my Pro Interiors course at https://LearnRE.NathanCool.com The 300 and 200 were in umbrellas and the far pops were just bounced. Also did a quick darken-mode window pull to finish it off. Time on site was just a few minutes and editing was even faster. HDR struggles with colors and light disparity in cases like this, but with simple lighting those problems are solved and the result is crisp and clean. Remember, when YOU control the light, then YOU control the image.

Why I don't rely on ambient light: it won't always work in your favor. Finished image is a flambient blend with a key by camera, fill in adjoining room, and a few composite pops with a window pull like I show in my Pro Interiors course at https://LearnRE.NathanCool.com By using flash, color casts are eliminated, colors remain stable, light is controlled to your liking, and editing is quick. Remember, when YOU control the light, then YOU control the image.

BTS footage and lighting diagram from this one yesterday. As the bts footage shows, this was an easy problem to solve using just a couple flashes, like I show in my Pro Interiors course at https://LearnRE.NathanCool.com HDR struggles in cases like this, but by simply using two lights on stands and a quick speedlight pop in the adjoining room, flambient blending solved the issue of light disparity and color casts, making editing very fast and easy. A darken-mode window pull was applied as well on the slider. Remember, when YOU control the light, then YOU control the image.

Almost all flash, and here's why. From last week this wasn't just a covered patio, this was a full-on loggia, acting as an extension between indoor and outdoor living, making it essentially an interior RE composition. Shot for an A&D client I did one 2-sided flash shot and then did a few quick lighten-blending mode pops. These are the same techniques I teach in my Architectural and Design photography course at https://LearnRE.NathanCool.com Knowing the principles of this kind of lighting you can tackle any space. HDR won't get results like this as the light disparity is far too immense and casts are extreme. But with flash, problem solved, editing quick, and results sharp.
