I could contemplate more on why I’ve seen an influx of multi generational sessions on my calendar or I can take it for what it is- love. Feeling lucky to witness all these layers of family together lately. Keep them coming. Xo

I can’t name exactly when it happened.

But the room shifted.

And suddenly we were in flow.

Carly, fully immersed in her work. Me fully alive in mine.

A synergy.

Alchemy.

Beauty.

A reverence for whatever comes through in the work.

The camera amplifies what’s already there. It’s one of the most fascinating parts of this work.

Want a clear path to the truth of a family? Point a camera at them.

I entered this session with a few inquiries as my guide:

What does it look like to be both so little and newly big?

What does it feel like to suddenly share the arms, the attention, the orbit with someone you’ve only just met?

As the morning unfolded, my curiosity was met with a web of generational love that Big Sister moved through with ease, and a little (or, a lot) of support from a grandmother softening the transition.

No shot list, just a witness following the threads of a family finding itself again.

It was one of those low days. They’ve been getting the best of me lately, if I’m being honest.

This was a session I walked away from feeling like I’d missed the mark. Artistry I wish I’d crafted better, angles I wish I’d noticed, lighting I wish I’d utilized more skillfully in the moment. The version in my head that didn’t fully make it out into the world was killing me slowly.

I keep circling a lesson in different ways lately and I feel like it’s finally beginning to synthesize:

Sometimes the most meaningful thing we offer isn’t perfection, brilliance, or even our best conceptual work.

Sometimes it’s simply our presence.

Trying.
Witnessing.
Staying in the moment.
Respecting the work enough to arrive anyway.

I think this applies to all of us- humans trying their best inside heavy seasons.

This is a note to myself and maybe to you too:
Do not underestimate your presence.

Sometimes what matters most is simply that you were there.

In-home session with a family so free, uninhibited, and deeply themselves

Plum Island felt like a faraway land to little me.
Wide open, windy, wild.

I still love bringing families here.
