Happy 1st Day of Fall to all who celebrate!! I know I'm always excited about September 1st - with Christmas being such a big deal around here for the rest of the year, I love to take some time in September/October to focus on fall! What's your favorite thing about this season?

Before everything changes...

There's a beautiful in between, where you're enjoying your little family, and also celebrating the growing of one more.

And in the rush of planning and preparing, take the time to capture how special this time is before it changes again.

They're born and you think, wow time is moving so slow, the nights are long, and I'm not sure how to do this whole parent thing.

Then they start pre-school and you think, wow I have a few minutes to myself. She gets to learn more and meet other children. But I still get to spend so much time with her afterwards.

Then they start elementary school and you get your first hit of missing them. The school day is long but they are learning so much now. Instead of little ones they are now growing up at such a fast rate.

Middle School arrives (and for us that's 5th grade). Now we're big kids. But still you think, they're here for 4 years. We have time.

Today arrives, and she's going into 8th Grade. The last before HS and already I'm thinking about how many summers I have left with her (5). How many adventures we still have together before life transitions again.

But I do know that I'm SO PROUD of her and the person she is becoming. Independent, Caring, Trustworthy, Smart, Beautiful, and still has the best smile around (thank you Dr Cos!).

Take it from me, and I only get to do this circle around the moon once: Take the photos. Be IN the photos. Enjoy every moment you can even when it's a tough day. Because they go faster and faster as they grow up.

“What if my baby is fussy for their newborn session?”

This is one of the biggest things new parents worry about before their photoshoot with me!

And honestly? You don't need to worry.

Newborns aren't on our schedule. They're on their schedule.
And in reality, there is no schedule yet at all. They're still getting used to being outside the womb.

They get hungry. They need to be held. They wake up. They stretch. They p**p (yup!). They make funny faces & noises. Sometimes they sleep like a dream, and sometimes they need a little more patience and soothing. Sometimes it is more challenging.

That's where experience comes in.

I don't expect your newborn to perform for the camera. I work with your baby, follow their cues, and give them the time they need. Sometimes that might mean we can't use outfits, or even pose them without being wrapped. Sometimes we're rocking and feeding in between sets.

We'll take more family photos, more snuggles, more real photos.

So if you've been putting off booking because you're worried your baby (or kids of any age, really) won't “cooperate".

I'm here to tell you that we'll create something beautiful together no matter what. And that is worth capturing!

Before the cake comes out, there’s something else I want to make sure we capture.

Your family.

Yes, we’ll absolutely get the adorable cake smash photos and bath. 🎂

But I don't want you to leave with only pictures of the smash (although these are definitely favorites!).

Your baby’s first birthday is a milestone for the whole family, and you deserve beautiful photographs together, too.

So we start with family portraits while everyone is still clean, happy, and warming up. Nothing long, just 5 minutes together or so, tops.

Then we'll go into the rest of the cake smash.

You'll have a full story of not only your baby's big birthday photoshoot, but you'll be in some too!

You don't have to feel “ready” for photos to schedule a photoshoot with me.

I hear this from moms all the time:
“I need to lose a few pounds first."
“I need to get my hair done.”
“I don't know what I'm going to wear.”
“I just don't feel like myself right now.”

But you deserve to be in the photos, too. Your loved ones deserve to have you in the photos.

Not just the ones where everyone is looking at the camera and everything is perfectly coordinated. The cuddles. The tickles. The way your kids look at you. Those are the things you'll want to remember. And these are the moments you'll cherish the most.

Pregnancy is such an incredible milestone, and a lot of focus is on baby (understandably).

But what about this version of the expecting Mom? This version that lives in her for 9 months that you won't get back?

Maternity Photography focuses on this version of her as she is NOW. That beautiful glow, her bump, sentimental details, the beauty of her pregnant.

I have so many that reach out for Maternity sessions (or I can tell based on how many visit my website page for it), and so many opt out of it.

But this is the most beautiful time for Mom - let's focus on her for just a minute.

I was incredibly proud of this photoshoot and it made me realize how much I LOVE the casual maternity flow. We're not worried about fluffing fancy dresses (which don't get me wrong, are also amazing to work with!), just focusing on Mom & sometimes Partner/other children as well. Crisp whites, deep blacks, Mom was hoping for some amazing black and white photos with this session and we delivered! But I loved how beautiful their skin tones looked in color as well!
