First birthday cake smashes are such a joy to plan and photograph, but what about planning for TWINS! In this family's case, we had twin boys and also their 3yo sibling! A lot to wrangle, but with patience, guidance on how to plan, multiple family members to help, and a good workflow, we were successful in some sweet family photos and portraits with these two cuties!

Setting appropriate expectations for photoshoots with every age group is so important, and communicating with your photographer in advance so everyone is on the same page can be a big help. Those of us who work regularly with children can tell you all of the ways to prepare, what to expect, and what to do to pivot if things go a different way. Sessions are always baby-led!

Scheduling birthday sessions through September/October. It's never too early to plan, especially the busy end of summer and fall!

Welcome to the NEW home of theflashladyphotography.com!

Over the last few months we've worked on doing a complete renovation of my website with the help of Digiarks . I wanted to stay with a WordPress site and reflect the growth and quality of my business over the last 15+ years, especially with the build of my new studio in 2025. Although algorithms keep changing, having a modern website is still so important for potential clients.

This image was created in a small turnaround next to a parking lot.

You might walk right by other than noticing some of the purple irises. But me as your photographer? I knew immediately that I wanted to try to make not just a photograph here, but a piece of literal artwork for this family (it's going to be a gorgeous canvas on their wall!). We've worked together before (thank you!), so they know I'll always pull something together that's magical.

This location was a simple state park. Nothing fancy. No manicured gardens or what most consider a popular location. But one I enjoy going to with families because it has multiple ways to interact, especially with young kids. There was even a family of baby geese walking around, a small beach area, path through the wood, a covered bridge, a stream.

But this little patch of purple stole the show. And allowed me to use my experience, knowledge, lighting, and perspective to create some truly amazing. Not only of their family, but be sure to swipe all the way to the end to see how gorgeous the photo with their daughter is too!

This is 42.

Another year older, not sure wiser, and working my 4th, first birthday cake smash this week before heading to my daughter's sports tournament. New theme: "Fast ONE"!

But grateful for every day because it's not guaranteed. Even when being a small business owner is tough, even when the world seems to be in despair, there's always something to be grateful for another year on this Earth.

One of my favorite things about newborn photography is that years from now, these images won't be treasured because of the props or trends. They'll be treasured because they bring families back to a season that passed far too quickly. Each milestone that I photograph with my clients tells a story, and a story that will be remembered every time they look at them.

Despite the sleepless night, long days, diapers everywhere, and helping a sibling through the transition, they'll have images of their first time together, baby's tiny toes, tiny features, and big sister's sweet smile. Each newborn story is one of my greatest honors! And it was so wonderful to see this family again!

Happiness is such a special thing, especially when you're looking back at someone you love. You remember the funny moments, the little details, how quickly they grew up, and even some of the things you forgot.

That's why holding on to these memories is so important. When the parties are over, the milestones have past, your kids have graduated, or Grandparents have passed on, what will you have left to make you happy? The photographs of those beautiful, happy moments.

Grateful to have shared in this little one's first year of milestones, from newborn to sitting up, to first birthday, and even some separate sessions with each set of relatives.

Pride isn't something I think about only in June.

It's in the families I photograph, the stories I document, and the belief that everyone deserves to feel seen, welcomed, and celebrated.

Over the years, I've had the privilege of photographing families, couples, and children from many different backgrounds and experiences. What connects them all isn't how they fit into a category, it's love, togetherness, and a desire to capture a moment in their life that wants to live on.

My studio has always been, and will always be, a place where all families are welcome.
