I often ask, what’s something special to you two that we can incorporate into your engagement session? In this case, it was a vintage car that he worked on with his dad since childhood. The Newport location was also special, because it’s the same town they are getting married in.

I was at dinner recently and may have fully eavesdropped on the table next to me. Four women, one newly engaged, the rest chiming in with their own wedding experiences. Here's what I heard:

“One photographer sent us a questionnaire with like thirty questions before we even spoke. One of them asked for our horoscopes. I was like, I don’t have time for this.”

Finding a photographer shouldn't feel like homework. My website has everything you need to feel confident reaching out. And if all you know is that you're getting married and you like my photos, that's enough.

My Top 5 Favorite things about a Newport Fall Wedding:
1 - Crowds drop off after Labor Day. Same Newport charm, but less crowded.
2 - The days are still long. On September 1st the sun doesn’t set until 7:18 pm. Daylight saving doesn’t hit until November 1st, so even on October 31st you still have until 5:41pm.
3 - The light gets better. Summer light in Newport can be harsh and contrasty. By October it drops lower and warmer, giving a stunning glow.
4 - The temperature. September runs in the mid 70s. October cools into the 60s. Comfortable for everyone, all day.
5 -The guest experience. Outside of the wedding day, it’s easier to find parking and to grab dinner without a reservation. It’s the small things!

Most people don’t know exactly what they want from their photos. But they usually know how they want the day to feel.

That’s what I’m listening for. What matters to them, how they’re thinking about the day, what is important to them. No two weddings look the same and I’m not trying to make them.

I started noticing it early on. Every wedding day has a structure and a shape. And then inside of it, things just start happening. Moments that belong entirely to those two people and the specific collection of humans they’ve gathered around them.

That’s what drew me to this. The couple is the center of it, but the whole room shaped who they are. The friends, the family, the people who go back twenty years and the ones who showed up more recently. A wedding is all of that in one place at the same time. It doesn’t look the same twice because it can’t.
