I had the opportunity this week to photograph Congressman Patronis at the North Bay Fire District’s Medal of Valor Ceremony honoring Lieutenant Brett McDaniel and Firefighter Tindell Hart.
What happened that day is a powerful reminder of how quickly things can change. On October 30, 2025, crews were battling a working condominium fire at Vinings Way when part of the roof collapsed, trapping two firefighters under burning debris. A MAYDAY call went unheard because of a radio malfunction, and in that moment, McDaniel and Hart didn’t hesitate. They pushed through intense heat and zero visibility, cleared the debris, and pulled their fellow firefighters to safety within seconds, actions that very likely saved their lives and made sure everyone got out safely.
From behind the camera, it was more than just a ceremony, it was a reminder of the real risks these men and women face every day. North Bay Fire District, along with South Walton Fire District and Destin Fire Control District, showed incredible teamwork during the incident. The Medal of Valor presentation wasn’t just about recognition, it was about honoring courage, quick thinking, and the strong bond shared by those who serve.
