I’ve photographed enough weddings to know that nobody remembers the charger plates.

Nobody.

Not the guests.
Not the couple.
Not even me.

What people do remember is how the day felt.

The moment your partner sees you for the first time.

Your dad trying not to cry and absolutely failing.

The friend who’s known you for 15 years giving a speech that leaves half the room in tears.

The ten minutes alone together when you finally realize:

“Holy s**t. We actually did it.”

The wedding industry loves to convince couples that every little detail is make-or-break.

But after more than a decade behind a camera, I can tell you this:

The weddings that stick with me aren’t the most expensive ones.

They’re the ones that feel unapologetically like the people getting married.

Whether that’s a black dress, tacos, a motorcycle exit, a backyard reception, a mountain elopement, or a dance floor packed with your favorite weirdos.

So here’s some wedding advice nobody gave you, but probably should have.

I photograph weddings for a living, which means I’ve seen a thing or two. 😂

A lot of wedding advice online focuses on trends, details, and things that honestly won’t matter much five years from now.

What *does* matter?

✨ Building in time to actually enjoy your wedding.
✨ Hiring vendors you trust.
✨ Giving yourself breathing room in the timeline.
✨ Remembering that the day is about your marriage, not your Pinterest board.

This carousel is a collection of some of the biggest wedding photography red flags I see couples run into while planning.

Hey Louisville!

I'll be visiting the Louisville area July 20–22 and would love to photograph a few couples while I'm in town.

Maybe you're celebrating an anniversary, recently got engaged, or just want an excuse to spend an evening together and have some photos that actually feel like you. I'm always down for exploring a cool location, chasing good light, and creating something fun.

My normal rate is $350/hour, but if that's not quite in the budget and you like my work, reach out anyway. If you have an idea you've been wanting to do or a location you love, I'm more than happy to be flexible while I'm visiting.

One thing I’ve noticed over the last few years:

Wedding traditions aren’t disappearing.

They’re becoming more intentional.

Couples are asking themselves less often, “What are we supposed to do?” and more often, “What actually matters to us?”

That might mean a huge wedding party.

It might mean no wedding party at all.

It might mean inviting 250 people.

It might mean celebrating with 25.

It might mean a luxury ballroom.

It might mean a backyard full of your favorite people.

And neither is better than the other.

Just different.

The best weddings I’ve photographed haven’t all looked the same. In fact, they usually look completely different from one another.

What they have in common is that the couple made decisions based on what they valued, not what they felt obligated to do.

At the end of the day, your wedding isn’t a test you have to pass.

It’s a celebration you’re creating.

Build it in a way that feels like you.

This one’s for the little things. ✨

The custom wood surfboard guest book filled with messages they’ll keep forever.

The perfectly matched matchbooks sitting beside candlelight.

The individualized cigar boxes and engraved knives waiting for the groomsmen.

My personal favorite new wedding trend: scratch-off lottery tickets. Because who doesn’t love a little extra excitement on wedding day? 🎰

The reserved chair. The framed photo. The little reminder that someone important is still part of the day, even if they can’t physically be there.

The charm tucked into a bouquet so Dad can still walk down the aisle.

These details might seem small in the grand scheme of a wedding day, but they’re often the pieces that tell the deepest story. The things chosen with intention. The things guests remember. The things that make a wedding feel uniquely yours.

I love documenting the big moments—the first kiss, the first dance, the wild dance floor—but I’ll always have a soft spot for the little things too. 🤍

One thing nobody really talks about when hiring a photographer:

You’re not just hiring photos.

You’re hiring a person you’re about to spend a surprising amount of time with.

For weddings, I might spend more time with you on your wedding day than some of your actual guests.

For sessions, we’re usually spending an hour or two wandering around together making conversation and creating something from scratch.

So I figured an introduction was overdue.

Outside of photography you’ll usually find me wandering a record store, exploring a city I’ve never been to before, chasing good light down a random side street, or getting distracted by old trucks, architecture, and dogs.

I love stories.

The kind told through photographs.
The kind told over coffee.
The kind hidden in places most people walk right past.

I think life is too short to take only the safe route.
I think the best photos usually happen somewhere between a plan and complete chaos.
And I think being a little weird is probably a good thing.

Anyway, here’s a little glimpse into the person behind the camera.
