I tell clients to bring anything special or of significant meaning to their newborn session. So when the Sullivan family requested a photo of a loved one who had passed to be incorporated into Maya's studio session, I was honored to capture it.

There's something so tender about the way we hold onto the people we've lost, especially when we're welcoming someone new into the world. Maya will grow up knowing she was surrounded by love from day one, even the love that came before her.

These are the moments that remind me why I do this work. Not just pretty pictures, but pieces of a family's story, held onto forever.

Love at first sight.

If you're a Class of 2027 senior and have fall vibes in mind for your portraits, this one's for you.

Riley and I spent 90 minutes at just one location, and her gallery looks like we went to at least 3 separate locations. That's how diverse just one spot can be.

We can get tall prairie grass, color pops of fall foliage, and a little rocky creek for 3 very different looks.

Photo session with your bestie? Yes please!!!

We can capture so many fun, candid moments between you and your bestie. Yes, we can do posed, portrait style shots, but really? I love those authentic moments that feel so natural, you forget that I'm there with my camera to document it all.

Let's make this year really special with that person who is the peanut butter to your jelly. The one you tell it all to. The one who makes you laugh until you cry and the one who listens to all your tears and fears.

Can I be honest?

I've always been a bit scared of direct sunlight for sessions. I've told clients I only shoot the hour or so before sunset (i.e. golden hour) because that's "the best" lighting. And while there's nothing quite like that time of day, I recently learned that there's tons of beauty and artistry to be made outside of that window. It just takes some learning and bravery to discover that just about any time of day can be pure magic when you're willing to do it.

I would've never shot a 4:00pm senior session in years past. But after attending a conference and learning from the-best-of-the-best in this industry, and having the opportunity to put this practice to the test with my own camera, I can say that I'm ready to offer earlier sessions for seniors with 100% confidence.

The pictures will speak for themselves 🤩

Moms of high school senior boys ...

I know - selling your kid on having their own senior portraits is tough. My own 14 year old son had the audacity to decline 8th grade portraits with me this year (I'm still working on it). So trust me when I say I 100% get it.

Most moms of high school boys tell me their son is reluctant about having pictures done when they book their session. But after every single photoshoot, every mom is SO glad they made it happen, and every senior guy says something along the lines of "That wasn't so bad." afterwards. I have a pretty great track record with senior boys, ESPECIALLY the hard sells.

So do yourself a favor and get that photo session scheduled. I promise it won't be as terrible as he thinks. And he *might* just have a good time and actually give me a genuine smile 😉

Hi! I'm Liz, a local high school senior portrait photographer here in Bloomington IL.

I married my high school sweetheart in 2007. We've been together for 30 years. Gross, I know. But really? He's my best friend.

My 3 human kids and one fur baby are my world. They teach me about life, love, and patience.

I was a teacher for over a decade. 5 of those years were spent teaching Deaf and hard of hearing students in Chicago. The other 6 years were in Naperville as a reading specialist in a junior high. I don't care what people say - junior high kids are the best.

I started as a postpartum doula in 2017. In 2020 I moved over to being birth doula. I've lost track of how many families I've worked with over the years, but it's an honor I'll never take for granted.

I LOVE a good, long walk. I find so many things in nature that delight me.

Food is my jam. Yes, I love elevated, fine dining, but I'm also down for a good comfort food. Henry's has been my go-to hotdog stand since I was a kid. I take my kids back every year.

I've really leaned into high school senior portraits. I adore working with seniors. There's something so incredible about finding an amazing location and helping them feel confident and beautiful.

Toddlers are a tough crowd. They don't give their smiles freely and aren't super trusting, at least not at first. I take great pride in cracking the code with kids who aren't easily impressed.

There's nothing like a newborn session. The tiny features. The sweet yawns. The tender moments between parents who are so in love with another human, it physically hurts.

I've started dabbling in product and branding photography and it's so rewarding!
