26 Hours in Amsterdam: See What I See

**Context: Francesca and Sammy’s wedding. Father-Daughter dance with Mr Steve and Franny (The Beatles were playing…), Mom/Sherry/THE SherryMorell to the left filming (and crying) (we all were) (it was a TEAR FEST). No, I didn’t shoot the wedding - ya girl doesn’t *do* weddings and bless those who do, because LORD that is HARD. But I just can’t not take a shot here and there. So trusty iPhone 16promax (or whatever the frick it’s called) (damned good resolution so not mad about it). So there’s your context **
STORY TIME: It takes a village. For years. I love this bride. This girl. This woman. This child of God. This now, wife. I have heard her laugh ‘til she couldn’t breathe. I have heard her sob with brokenness. I have seen her laser focused and also scattered as a whirlwind. Because of a village. My own child has sat at these parent’s table, hugged their necks, eaten their food, been corrected, protected, defended and HEARD and SEEN and up lifted and directed and prayed for and oh my dear sweet God LOVED. Because of a village.
I had half a moment later to talk w Mr Steve (and he IS Mr Steve to all of us). He said yes, family being there was so special and many of Fran and Sammy’s people, but he saw the village. The people who helped you raise your kids and still care and love and check in on them - with and through you OR independently. Distance and changes and time and space and aging happen, but love - oh the kindest love - is a string through time. Because of that village. That, yes, grew up even in a big city.
So when God sends a kid or two or twenty through your door, LOVE ON EVERY STINKING ONE like they’re your very own, because they most certainly are. That is being a loving, intentional STEWARD of what we are given (clock it in Matt 25, kids). And we are given it for a moment and for a lifetime. BE THE VILLAGE. Become the village. And know your own are loved just as much and just as seriously and just as big.
Thank you, Mr Steve and THE SherryMorell. WE, your village, are so very proud of you and love you so very very much and thank you for loving back tenfold 😘

If you knew him, you loved him. Sweet, good, dear, fluffy Coop quietly and painlessly passed over the rainbow bridge this morning. The hole he leaves in our hearts is massive. He’s been Hadley’s closest companion for nearly 8 years - going to college, grad school, becoming a therapy dog, being an “apartment dog”, and finally loving the three sweet girls in the pretty little house in east Nashville. Coop and his deep, soulish eyes rarely met a stranger and welcomed pets from any and all. His fluffiness wiped out no fewer than 5 vacuums, but we just considered it his confetti he freely and generously shared with the world. Thank you, sweet boy, for loving my Big Girl through some very hard, dark days - for being an absolute angel on earth. Rest well, old man. You did your job so very well and protected the “ranch” wherever you were. Damn this hurts beyond hurts. Forever we love you, Bubba 💔😓

STORY TIME: I had Brandon on my SPRING grad schedule - we were a couple of weeks from his shoot date when his mom contacted me to let me know Brandon had been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma so we’d need to put his shoot on hold 😫 My heart dropped and that all-to-familiar stomach punch hit me like a truck. If you know me - and my family - YOU KNOW how this hurt my heart. His sweet mom kept me in the loop all summer as this big ‘ol sweet boy went through the absolute s**t show that is chemo. Bless 😓. In August we set up a tentative date for OU Family Weekend to CELEBRATE alllll the things! So - y’all - this is BRANDON and he is an OU GRADUATE and he is a SURVIVOR and he will walk that stage in December 😎 For me? A privilege to mark this milestone with a warrior (of whom I’m a BIG FAN) (and his precious mom, Melissa, too!!!!). Congrats, Brandon! BOOMER ❤️🤍❤️🤍❤️🤍
