Friends. I want to get very real for a second.
This is something I have spoken about before with all of you - but it’s starting to become an issue even my body won’t let me ignore any longer.
After a night of not sleeping soundly because I couldn’t get my brain to shut off - this was me this morning, experiencing hives for the first time ever after being a nervous wreck before texting my clients scheduled for today about the possible storms expected this evening.

2026 has been my most challenging year with my photography business to date. I have had to cancel/reschedule more sessions this year alone than I probably have in the past 13 years.
Being a photographer in Oklahoma always comes with different challenges when it comes to the weather here. Bipolar temperatures, insane wind, random thunderstorms, sudden tornado watches, quick flash flooding & almost anything else you can think of.
Besides being a photographer, I feel like I can also label myself as a part time meteorologist with how much I am obsessively checking the weather.
No photographer ever purposely chooses to cancel sessions. I know how quickly the weather can change in this state & never want to make a final call too soon. That’s why I always try my best to trust what the news is predicting, give my clients a heads up about the possible weather expected, come up with a plan B & pray the weather works out for all of you.
But sometimes it doesn’t. & that is the hardest part of trying to navigate unpredictable weather. Do I take a chance and risk my clients, their outfits, my camera equipment & my props for the session? Or do I play it safe & deal with the guilt afterwards when it ends up not raining at all?
Photographers aren’t miracle workers. As much as we would like to always be able to guarantee beautiful sunshine conditions, we can’t. And not only do we carry your disappointment on our shoulders but we also feel the weight of losing business when some clients don’t understand the situation.
90% of my clients are always INCREDIBLE & so understanding when situations like this happen. And those of you that don’t blame me for things out of my control are the only thing that keep reminding me to continue on in my photography passion & I can never thank you guys enough.
Oklahoma has kicked my butt this year. It feels like I can never catch a break with the weather & a lot of sessions that I have planned have come with so many complications. It has been such a defeating feeling that makes me debate all the time just giving up.
But I know you all believe in me & my work and that there would be so many moments in your lives that I would miss out on if I stepped away from photography. So I continue to push on & navigate the hard times as a business owner as best as I can.
Please take this as a gentle reminder that being kind can go a super long way in this world. Especially to your photographers who stress themselves out completely over situations out of our control. ❤️🩹
