Your hair may be the most important color you wear—it frames your face every single day.

Blonde is not simply blonde. Brunette is not simply brunette. The warmth, coolness, depth and brightness of your hair can either repeat your natural coloring beautifully—or compete with it.

After 45 years behind the chair, I understand how powerfully hair color can change what we see in the face. Now, through color analysis, I can connect those two worlds even more precisely.

The goal isn’t always a dramatic change. Sometimes it is simply finding the tone that looks as though it has always belonged to you.

September has its own beautiful color language—richer than summer, but not yet completely dark.

A warm tomato coral for Spring. A misted blue for Summer. A sophisticated olive for Autumn. A saturated sapphire for Winter.

They may all be fashionable this season, but the most elegant choice will always be the one that harmonizes with you.

Trends offer the color. Your palette refines it.

AND THEN THERE IS TRUE WINTER…

This is where black becomes part of the harmony.

True Winter naturally carries the coolness, clarity and contrast needed to stand confidently beside true black. Rather than overpowering the person, black supports the strength already present in her coloring.

Pair it with:

• Crisp optic white
• Clear cobalt blue
• True red, fuchsia or vivid berry
• Polished silver
• Sleek, high-contrast accessories
• A clear, cool statement lip

Notice how the black, white and brilliant color hold their own beside one another. Nothing becomes muddy, faded or disconnected.

This doesn’t mean True Winter is “better” at wearing sophisticated clothing. It simply means black genuinely repeats qualities already present within this palette.

For Spring, Summer and Autumn, we found other neutrals that create that same polish more harmoniously.

But for True Winter?

Black isn’t merely the automatic choice. It can be exactly the right one.

BEFORE A TRUE AUTUMN BUYS ANOTHER BLACK SUIT…

Meet espresso brown.

It offers all the depth, polish and authority we often expect from black—but its warmth connects beautifully with True Autumn’s naturally rich coloring.

Build around it with:

• Warm cream instead of stark white
• Olive, moss or deep warm teal
• Cognac or rich brown leather
• Rust, brick or terracotta accents
• Gold, bronze or antique-finished metals
• A warm brick or spiced rose lip

Nothing here feels overly casual or “too brown.” It feels luxurious, grounded and beautifully intentional.

When shopping, look beyond the familiar row of black. Espresso, chocolate, olive, deep teal and warm navy can become the foundation of an Autumn wardrobe—and they coordinate effortlessly with the rest of the palette.

Black may be available everywhere, but that doesn’t make it your most sophisticated choice.

Sometimes the richest option has been hanging right beside it all along.

BEFORE A TRUE SUMMER BUYS ANOTHER BLACK DRESS…

Let’s consider soft navy instead.

Black can appear very deep and abrupt against True Summer’s naturally cool, blended coloring. Soft navy provides the same elegance and versatility—but relates much more beautifully to the person wearing it.

Build around it with:

• Cool blue-gray or soft charcoal
• Rose, berry or periwinkle accents
• Dove gray or pewter accessories
• Soft white instead of stark white
• Silver jewelry
• A softly defined cool rose lip

Nothing about this outfit feels less sophisticated without black. It still has depth, structure and polish—but the colors flow together rather than competing for attention.

When shopping, don’t ask only, “Does this come in black?”

Ask whether it comes in soft navy, charcoal, slate blue or blue-gray. Those neutrals will work with more of your Summer palette and create a wardrobe that feels beautifully connected.

You aren’t giving up elegance.

You’re discovering that black was never the only way to achieve it.

BEFORE A TRUE SPRING BUYS ANOTHER BLACK OUTFIT…

Let’s look at what she could choose instead.

Black may feel polished, safe and easy—but True Spring can create that same sophistication with neutrals that are warmer, clearer and far more harmonious.

Begin with a beautiful clear navy. It gives you the depth and versatility of black without creating the same heaviness against your natural coloring.

Then build around it with:

• Warm ivory instead of stark white
• Camel or cognac leather instead of black
• Clear coral or turquoise for energy
• Luminous gold jewelry
• A fresh, warm lip color that brings you into the picture

Notice that this outfit doesn’t look less elegant because black is missing. In fact, it looks richer, fresher and much more intentional.

The next time your hand automatically reaches for black, pause and ask:

Could clear navy, camel, cognac or warm ivory do this job even better?

You don’t have to change your wardrobe overnight. Just allow what you know now to influence what you bring home next.

That is how a wardrobe slowly becomes more harmonious—and far more you.

HOW CAN A SUMMER WEAR BLACK? 🖤

Black is deep, strong and high-contrast. Summer beauty is cool, softly blended and more delicate—so black can sometimes become the first thing we notice.

But that doesn’t mean it has to leave your wardrobe.

The secret is to create a gentle bridge between the black and your face.

Try adding:

• A cool rose, periwinkle or soft blue near your face
• Silver jewelry
• A softly defined rose lip
• Soft white rather than stark white
• A scarf, blouse or jacket in one of your beautiful Summer colors

Let black become the foundation of the outfit—not the entire story.

And when you shop going forward, pause before automatically choosing black. Would soft navy, charcoal, slate blue or blue-gray give you the same versatility while creating more harmony with you?

You don’t have to replace everything you own. You simply begin making different choices—and gradually build a wardrobe that works together more beautifully.

Color analysis isn’t about restriction. It’s about knowing what to do next.

Your color analyst tells you black isn’t in your palette…

And you immediately gasp—because it makes up most of your wardrobe! 🖤

First, take a breath. Color analysis is never about telling you what you can or cannot wear—and it certainly doesn’t mean clearing out your closet and starting over.

It’s about discovering the colors that are naturally in harmony with you—the ones that brighten your eyes, soften your complexion and allow you to be seen first.

And black? You can still wear it.

We simply learn how to make it work for you: choosing a flattering color near your face, adding the right lipstick, jewelry or scarf, adjusting the neckline—or pairing black with the beautiful neutrals already waiting in your palette.

The real change often happens when you begin shopping again.

Now you know what to look for. Instead of automatically reaching for another black top, dress or jacket, you may find yourself choosing a rich navy, warm chocolate, soft charcoal or another beautiful neutral from your palette. Little by little, your wardrobe begins to change—not because someone told you it had to, but because you’ve seen how extraordinary the right colors make you look and feel.

You may even shop less because you’re buying with purpose instead of guessing.

Color analysis doesn’t take colors away from you. It gives you the knowledge to wear—and shop for—them more intentionally.

All week long, I’ll be showing you how Spring, Summer and Autumn palettes can wear black beautifully, even when black isn’t one of their very best colors.

Stay tuned…this may completely change the way you look at your closet.

Purple is commanding the Fall 2026 runways—but a color being “in style” doesn’t mean every version of it is right for you.

A warm, luminous orchid. A softened lavender. A rich aubergine. A clear royal violet. They may all be called purple, but each creates a very different effect against the face.

Color analysis doesn’t keep you from participating in fashion. It helps you discover your most beautiful version of what fashion is offering.

That is the difference between simply wearing the trend—and making the trend look as though it were created for you.

Once you know your colors… take yourself shopping. Literally. 😉

Here’s one of my favorite little tricks once you already know your True Season and understand your palette.

Take a simple selfie, print it, and cut away the clothing — leaving your face, hair and neckline intact.

Now you have a tiny YOU to take shopping. ❤️

Slip different colors and prints behind your photo and suddenly you’re not trying to imagine, “Would this look good on me?” You can actually see your face next to it.

Does your complexion come alive?
Do your eyes become clearer?
Does the color support you — or does the clothing suddenly become the first thing you notice?

And it isn’t just for the store. Take your little cutout into your own closet and start experimenting with pieces you already own.

Your swatch palette tells you where to begin.
Your face confirms the harmony.

Color analysis isn’t about memorizing a bunch of rules. It’s about learning to recognize you in color.

And apparently… carrying a miniature version of yourself in your purse. 😂
