I stepped out of the studio this past weekend to help cover the Washington Nitro Nationals Pro Motorcycle Hillclimb in Sunnyside, WA (American Hillclimb Association rounds 1 & 2). This has always been a very special event to me, and this year was no exception. Motorcycle riders from all over this region and beyond navigate a 1,000 ft off-road climb on specialty prepared machines in a race against the clock (or furthest distance if nobody breaks the final set of timing lights). Times from bottom to top are in the range of 20 seconds on a hill so steep that I cannot walk up or down without basically crawling. I highly recommend attending if you get the chance.

Eleven years ago, (Jan 23, 2015), I officially formed my photography company (Epic-Exposure, LLC). On this journey I have had the opportunity to meet so many kind and amazing people (from artists/creatives to vehicle owners, to athletes, to company owners, to event producers, and on and on...). During this time, I have also been blessed to be around enough to watch my daughter grow up (she was and still is my first and best assistant).

So many thanks to those we have met on this journey. It is because of you that I was very motivated to turn this improbable step-down retirement dream into a real business that has a fighting chance to provide for my family's future - and do so by making it exciting and engaging for me to approach each new day.

If you are interested in being part of this future journey... I will be posting more opportunities on both sides of a camera as the overall studio space recovers from two years of construction chaos.

First round of practice shots while testing with the single overhead light source in the new studio area.

Even with fixed camera settings, camera orientation and lens focal length there are still many variables that dramatically change how a vehicle looks in-camera, including:
- Vehicle orientation (turntable)
- Circular polarizer angle
- Light box elevation (vertical axis)
- Light box rotation (horizontal plane)
- Light intensity (controlled via eight dimmers)
- Light motion (for diffused look)

In 2016, I was contacted by the owners of a 70 Nova asking me to capture their car for the Dream Builders Car Show, “Best In Show” (automobile). The image was to be used as part of a graphic for the following year’s show. As I recall, they were struggling to get a suitable picture of their black car with detailed flames painted by Mike Lavallee, outside. I agreed. Turns out that this 70 Nova was the very first customer car my company hosted in the newly built automotive studio. A few months later I received a call from Steve (DBCS) asking if I would capture the automobile and bike winners for the following year’s show. We have been working together ever since that phone call (2016 through 2025). As a look back, here is a sample of the amazing DBCS “Best In Show” vehicles that have crossed over my studio’s turntable. (all except the 56 Chevy, which was captured at the DBCS event).

For 2025, I am adding a new addition to the studio (3,000 sqft of all white shooting area, 2nd automotive turntable, 2nd large overhead light box, and RGB panels in an overhead grid to help change the environment to any color). Not quite ready yet, but should be available in a couple more months.
