Well, hey. About 3 and a half minutes into my project (give or take 5 seconds) I realized something.

I'm organizing all of my photos of my little man from his first year so I can make his ONE YEAR photo book and I got to thinking about our little chat a week or so ago...and thought:

Maybe you have a project like that too? Why don't you come join me at the studio this Saturday and we can work on our projects together?

Bring your laptop, your photos, your questions, and that project you've been putting off. 😉

Sometimes it's just more fun, and easier, to do these things together!

And because I appreciate you coming to hang out with me, I'll also have a little $20 gift code for everyone who joins us. ❤️

Yeah? You in?

🖤 NEW AT THE STUDIO: The Moody Set

Some of you know I have a serious love affair with dark, moody, dramatic photography. So naturally… I had to build a set for it. 🖤

Meet my newest studio setup:
Black walls. Warm wood. Vintage textures. Soft, dramatic light. A little greenery. A little mystery.

But here's the fun part…

The chair can stay and become a beautiful seated portrait/workspace, OR I can transform the space into a desk/table setup for branding images.

Think:
✨ Author
✨ Therapist or coach
✨ Realtor
✨ Interior designer
✨ Artist or maker
✨ Boutique owner
✨ Photographer
✨ Consultant
✨ Business owner
✨ Anyone whose brand is a little more moody, sophisticated, creative, or unconventional
And I want to photograph it with someone who can help me show you just how versatile this space can be.

🖤 I'm looking for one willing volunteer who would love some fresh branding images and fits the vibe of this set.

In exchange for helping me bring this new setup to life, you'll receive 3–5 complimentary fully edited branding images from your session.

Interested? Drop a 🖤 below or send me a message and tell me a little about your business!

A new medical provider came into the studio for professional headshots (Congratulations!!!)

And with it, the company who hired her had specific requirements for the images.

So, I did what I do best.

We created a variety of looks, poses and expressions and made sure the final images were delivered in all the formats they needed for their website and marketing.

And she didn't have to worry about a single thing.

I guided her through the posing.
I handled the retouching.
I prepared the files.
And I delivered everything directly to their marketing team.

To me, that's what a professional headshot session should feel like.

You just need to show up. I've got the rest. 📸❤️

Saturday Studio Update!

A little change of plans for tomorrow!

I have a private session in the morning, so the studio will open at NOON instead of 10am.

I had to retire the beach set early because we had a beautiful maternity session and a cake smash so I'd say it went out on a high note. 🤍

BUT...

I'll still be at the studio 12pm–3pm with:

📸 Special Saturday priced headshots
🔥 DIY photos in front of the summer fireplace
🖼️ Photo projects & all things photo-related
☕ And me, probably drinking coffee and doing something photography-ish. 😂

So if you've been meaning to stop in, come see me!

I get asked all the time: “What’s the difference between a high-resolution photo and a low-resolution photo?”

So let me explain it the best way I can...with a food analogy!

Imagine your photo is a slice of bread. 🍞 A high-resolution photo is your nice, big, fluffy slice of bread.

You can make a little sandwich with it.
You can make a BIG sandwich.
You can cut it in half.
Heck, you can make yourself a giant Scooby-Doo sandwich if that's what you're into.

In short, you've got plenty of bread to work with.

Now take that same slice and squish it into a little dough ball. That's your low-resolution photo.

It's still bread.
It still tastes like bread.
It's still technically the same piece of bread...
..but you're not going to magically unfold that dough ball back into your nice, big slice.

And that's basically what happens with a low-resolution image.
You can take a big, high-resolution photo and make it smaller.

But once you've squished that image down and gotten rid of all that extra information, you can't just make it big again and get all those details back.

This is what happens if you try to enlarge photos from Facebook, from emails & texts or take the photo with the camera setting set to low resolution.

Keep the big, fluffy slice of bread. You can always make it smaller later.
You can't un-squish the bread. 🍞

I had SO much fun photographing The Enchanted Quill branding session! 📚🪶✨

We filled an hour with books, reading spaces, D&D, customers, games, and all the little details that make this North Branch bookstore such a fun place to be.

The goal was to create images that Enchanted Quill can use on their website, social media, marketing materials, and wherever else their business needs a little visual storytelling.

I'm so pleased with how this session came together and grateful that they trusted me to help tell their story!

Well hello there, freeway billboard. 👋

Imagine my surprise when I'm getting on the freeway and suddenly recognizing one of my branding photos!

I haven't managed to get a picture of the billboard yet because apparently I have not mastered the art of photographing things while safely merging onto the freeway.

So you'll have to take my word for it.

I love seeing my work leave the studio and end up in the wild
Pretty freaking cool.

And if you are buying or selling a house, do yourself a big ol' favor and call Cathy Carchedi! We worked with her personally and loved the whole process with her!

I’ve spent the last few days with this little cherub, and I’m not quite ready to give him back.

I will be open normal hours 10am-3pm, but my littlest sidekick will be in tow.
I have to train him early so he can be as good as his mama when she was my assistant. I still miss her at every shoot...but some of you know her as Elf Erin.

Raise your hand if you remember the "Erin Days!?"🙋‍♀️

So today, for a little bit...we'll both be here. Come say hi to us!
