Patience has been my greatest adversary during this entire injury process. At first, it was patience to find answers and what I was injured with. Now that I have that, I’ve had surgery to hopefully correct what was wrong, it is patience to recover. Surgery and recovery from it and the injury itself isn’t linear, I’m learning. It’s not quick, it’s not painless, and it’s not perfect. Steps forward and steps back. I’m entirely hopeful and excited at the prospect of a path forward and a full recovery, but I still don’t know what my future exactly holds after this. Patience for healing and patience for not knowing the answers or exactly what will happen is the hardest part. Giving my body grace for its non-linear path forward is the best thing I can do.

In the meantime, during this long phase of patience, I’ve been trying to slowly shift my focus on finding some sort of life that I can currently live. My work isn’t the same. My hobbies aren’t the same. My mental and physical state and capabilities aren’t the same. So, how do I go on living? What life do I make of it? All things I’m trying to figure out so that this process becomes just a little bit easier. So that it becomes a little bit less mentally taxing.

Patience in perpetuity. Patience in seeking a way through.
