Everything sacred is on the ballot. Everyone has something to show up for over the next two weeks for elections! 🗳️🗓️

Native Organizers Alliance has partnered with several beloved artists across Indian Country in our mission to amplify the power of Tribes, organizations, and communities.

This beautiful piece by Mer Metztli Cītlali Cihuatlahtoāni wraps up this year’s artist series, and the work continues to the ballot box and beyond.

“The heart of our work is to engage with our communities to train change-makers as we resist injustices, reclaim our human rights and rights of the natural world, and rebuild systems of governance. It is our shared responsibility to live to be good relatives to each other today and good Ancestors for all generations to come.”

Grandmother stories carry us forward, build bridges, and pass down wisdom to guide generations to come. They must be told. When we sit and listen, they transport us and kindle a fire within that will always burn bright.

Unči Vivian is one of few grandmothers who still speak fluent Lakóta on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation. MiLakóta Yeló is her story of a life unfolded within a land and culture that she fights to protect with every rising sun. It is an offering of unconditional love and remembrance of the women before her.

Living memories of the land and language are spoken through personal memoirs, offering a quiet reflection on Lakota life, identity, and enduring matriarchal wisdom. This film is dedicated to the grandmothers who uphold our communities.
