WARLORD WRAP UP
Aug 16-Sept 1 2024
Anyone who knows me knows I am the first to bitch about something that is wrong, but also the first to point out excellence in a situation.
I am sure a lot of you have seen some of the videos and many more will be coming. But here is a quick synopsis of the first run for Warlord.
As far as the players go:
Jimmy Waldo-keys.
I knew he would have it down and he is the ultimate pro. Worked with Jimmy in the past and he was what I expected. Is he Steve Walsh or Jerry Lee Lewis with the stage antics, no, but that is not Warlord. Played perfectly and hit every cue. Pro, and yes that word will come up a bunch of times.
Philip Bynoe-bass, back vocal:
Not much to say. When I play, Philip plays. My rule and I am sticking to it. Pro. This is one of the few guys that can occupy half a stage by himself, not move, and you cannot take your eyes off of him. He truly makes me try and be better with every bar. Kind of like playing with Jordan or Kobe where you have to be 110% all of the time.
Giles Lavery-vocal:
Well well, boy has he came along way since the early Warlord shows in 2013. Really comfortable on stage as well as really nailing the vocals. None of this burnt out rock star, can’t hit the note crap.
Really nailed it. Pro. True Warlord
Eric Juris and Diego Pires-guitars:
This was the wild card. Never met these guys but they were prepared and really had it down. It was important from previous experience that the two guitar players be in sync with each other, both the playing and the communication. Since these guys are friends and live close to each other I knew we were on the right track. These guys had it down note for note. I mean note for note. They studied and duplicated the exact Warlord music. Bill would be proud. No jamming or blues interpretation, but flat out respect to Destroyer. It just sounded like the record. We could have played a gig after one day of rehearsal
I could go on and on, but you get the idea.
But this was just half the battle, which we won. The other
half is the hang, how everyone gets along and the attitude. If possible this was better than the playing. Everybody worked as a team. I was completely blown away by the willingness of everyone to help and be part of the team. Eric and Diego took care of the driving and logistics, which is just as important as the gig as well both of them helping everyone else when needed. Diego, without being asked became my drum tech. Again, I was totally blown away as this is not normal and I am not used to it. Giles did
a great job in his day to day managerial duties that kept the ship moving in the right direction.
I can’t stress enough how everyone got along so well and were pulling in the same direction.
In conclusion, let’s just say the future is looking very bright for Warlord in the recording and touring department!! See you guys soon. Check Warlordband.com for upcoming shows and updates.
