Back in 1985 and newly arrived in Jeddah, KSA, I was asked to go a prominent school to meet the principal.
Former emmisary to the late King Faisal walked into her office, totally relaxed and at home in her domain she relaxed leaning on the back rest of a chair.
I was there to talk about creating a studio portrait for official use.
So when she arrive at the studio a week later, for the portrait appointment, I'd strategically placed a chair of the perfect height, exactly where I wanted to pose the subject. Of course without any direction the lady adopted the stance I expected.
The portrait is part of a permanent collection of Saudi dignitaries of the time.
Now here i am clearing out prints/canvases and frames from yesteryear to reclaim some of the space in our house.

Way back in 1981, not long after Dr, Roger Saunders, John Hannavy and I inaugurted The Master Photographer Magazine, i received a package from Sony UK.
It was this absolutely amazing, ahead of its time video system.
The P1 system comprised a portable recoder, tuner and the camera pictured here.
It was my job to write a review for our young professional only house journal.
For 1981 this equipment was light years ahead of the field, sadly in spite of better handling, superior image and sound quality, Betamax just didn't catch on.
Following a thorough test and composing a very positive review,it was time to return the equipment to Sony.
It seems they were delighted with the three page illutrated article, that on the day i came to package the components for shipping, the loan period was indefinitely extended so that i could run more test projects.
It may well be commercially obsolete but what a fine work of art it still is. Im so reluctant to ditch the 43 year old piece of industry hustory.

Fatima bint Muhammad Al-Fihriya Al-Qurashiya (فاطمة بنت محمد الفهرية القرشية‎) founded the world’s first university in 895 CE in Fez, which is now in Morocco🇲🇦. She is more usually known simply as Fatima al-Fihri. She established the University of Al Qarawiynn using her share of her father's wealth she inherited with her sister. The university started as a large mosque and later grew into a place of education.
