Raise kids who understand that time with people will always be worth more than things.

We’ve normalized fewer get togethers.
Fewer birthday parties.
Fewer reasons to gather.

And replaced them with shopping sprees, gift cards, and more stuff.

But what’s the point of having a closet full of clothes if you have nowhere to wear them?

A house full of things if nobody ever comes over?

All the stuff in the world can’t replace having people to laugh with, celebrate with, show up for, and grow through life with.

Because a house full of stuff can still be a really lonely place.

Raise them to build real relationships with people, not things.

I could be going through the most traumatic season of my life, and I’m still going to be kind.

I’m still going to smile at the stranger like my world isn’t falling apart.
I’m still going to use my please and thank yous. Because I cannot stand this idea that having a bad day gives you permission to make someone else’s just as bad.

We teach our children to manage their emotions. We expect them not to scream, throw tantrums, or take their frustration out on everyone around them.

Yet there are grown adults doing exactly that.

Screaming at the barista because their coffee doesn’t taste right.
Catching an attitude because the line took longer than 30 seconds.

Being rude to someone who had absolutely nothing to do with whatever put you in a bad mood isn’t going to make you feel better.

Smile. Conversate. Be an actual human being.

Because there’s an entire world full of people going through things you know nothing about, too.

Having a hard day doesn’t make you the only person in the room having one.

And it definitely doesn’t give you permission to make everyone else’s harder because you don’t know how to manage yours.

Nobody checks on the mom friend because she’s always the one checking on everybody else.

She remembers the birthdays.
Asks how the appointment went.
Notices when you’ve been quiet.
Sends the “did you make it home?” text.

So everyone assumes she’s okay.

But sometimes she’s checking on you while barely holding herself together.

Listening to you vent while needing someone to ask about her.

She doesn’t need to be fixed.
She just wants to be noticed, too.

Check on the mom friend who never asks you to.

She might need you more than you think.

Peer pressure doesn’t disappear when you grow up.
It just looks different.

It’s not always someone daring you to do something stupid anymore.

Sometimes it’s coworkers cutting corners, friends making bad choices, or everyone doing something you know isn’t right, and you going along with it because you don’t want to be the “goody two shoes.”

That’s why teaching our kids to stand firm matters so much.

Because one day, we won’t be there to tell them what the right choice is.

We’re raising them to be strong enough to make it anyway.

You’ll never catch me embarrassed over a thrift find or a good deal.

$2 dress? Absolutely.
And I’m telling everyone.

Thrifted shades? Oh yes.

I live for a good sales rack.

Everyone is so focused on brand name, brand new, and things that are expensive simply because they have someone’s name on them.

Someone who has no idea who you are and couldn’t care less about you, yet people are going broke trying to make them richer just to say they own it.

I’ll stick to my discounted, thrifted treasures.
And I’ll be proud of it.

Because there’s nothing embarrassing about spending less, and I wish we’d stop acting like there is.

It’s finally almost the time of year where I actually want to be outside.

I love summer.
I love the beach.
I love anything that involves swimming.

But let’s be honest, it’s too freaking hot.

Give me that cool, crisp breeze that makes you want to pack up the kids and go somewhere.

Camping.
Fishing.
Family hikes.
Bonfires and toasted marshmallows.

Dirty shoes, tired kids, laughing around a fire and going home smelling like outside.

The kind of days where everybody forgets about the screens for a while because there’s too much life happening right in front of them.

Bring on the weather that makes us want to go live it.

Modesty will take your children further in life.
And yes, I’m the mom who will absolutely send you back to change your outfit.

Because “it’s everyone else’s problem if they don’t like it” isn’t how the real world works.

You can have your own style.
You can express yourself.
You can wear things you love.

And you can still learn modesty.

Because one day it won’t be Mom telling you those shorts aren’t appropriate.

It’ll be a boss telling you that you’re out of dress code.
An opportunity that requires you to look professional.
A room where how you present yourself absolutely matters.

We’re so focused on teaching kids that nobody can tell them what to do that we’re forgetting to teach them how to carry themselves.

Not every expectation is oppression.
Not every dress code is an attack on individuality.
And not every correction is someone trying to control you.

Sometimes it’s preparing you for a world that will expect you to know the difference between expressing yourself and dressing appropriately for the situation.

So yes, go change.

You’ll understand why one day.

The world is so loud about what you should be doing next.

More money, more plans, more progress. Always moving, always chasing something.

And sometimes you have to intentionally stop and notice how good the quiet parts are.

A slow morning.
Everyone home.
Nowhere you have to be.
Nothing exciting happening at all.

Because life isn’t only happening in the big moments you’re constantly rushing toward.

A lot of it is happening quietly, while you’re too busy to notice.

There’s something different about mom friendships.

They meet you in one of the most exhausting, beautiful, overwhelming seasons of your life.

They watch your babies grow.
They love them.
Show up for them.
Become part of their childhood.

And while you’re so busy raising your babies, they’re helping hold you together too.

They remind you that the hard days are normal.
That you’re still a good mom.
That you’re not doing this alone.

Years from now, our kids will remember growing up together.

But we’ll remember the women who helped us make it through.

Solo parenting when you’re not a solo parent.
And it’s not because your husband sucks.

It’s because he’s providing out of town or overseas.

You have a husband.
Your kids have a present, involved dad.
He just physically can’t be there most days.

So the mornings, meals, school runs, baths, bedtimes, appointments, errands and everything in between fall on you.

You know he’s working hard.
You know he’d rather be home.
You know he’s making a sacrifice for his family.

But you’re making one too.

Because being the parent who stays behind and holds everything together while the other provides from somewhere else is its own kind of exhausting.

You can be grateful for the life he’s providing and still admit that doing the day to day without him is hard.
