This male Chrysilla volupe jumping spider exhibits some of the most striking metallic coloration I have ever seen on a jumping spider, with bright iridescent hues !!

Males of this species have a reddish-orange carapace (a hard, protective, chitinous plate covering the front part of the body of spiders) with iridescent blue stripes and legs with green, golden and purple scales, while females have a greyish carapace with yellow legs 💚

Their pedipalps (a pair of
appendages on the front of a
spider or arachnid) feature iridescent scales that create shimmering blue hues 💙

The vibrant, iridescent coloration of the Chrysilla volupe jumping spider is primarily used for attracting mates, with males displaying more vibrant colors than females to entice partners during courtship rituals.

The Chrysilla genus consists of 10 species worldwide, among which the Chrysilla volupe is found in India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and other parts of Asia.

Chrysilla volupe are diurnal, meaning they are active during the day, and use their exceptionally keen eyesight (the best among arthropods) for ambush hunting ants, other small arthropods and flies, as well as for navigation, gauging depth, and visual communication!

Planthoppers are part of the infraorder Fulgoromorpha which includes 12,500 species worldwide. They are sap-suckers, feeding on the sap of various trees and shrubs.

The name comes from their remarkable resemblance to leaves and other plants of their environment and that they often "hop" for quick transportation in a similar way to that of grasshoppers.

Their mottled camouflage patterns are most intense on the large forewings which helps them to blend in with the surroundings. This helps them avoid predators by mimicking foliage, bark, and lichen!

These fascinating lacewings derive from the family Chrysopidae. Lacewings belonging to the genus Italochrysa, unlike the usual green lacewings are much vivid in terms of coloration and sport beautiful rose pink and creamy yellow colours all over their body.

𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗹𝘆 (𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒖𝒔 - 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒚𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒕𝒚𝒍𝒖𝒔)

These flies belong to the family known as Dolichopodidae. They can be characterized by their metallic green colour and as the name indicates, their long legs.

Although these scavenging flies are merely 5mm in length, they are efficient and active predators. They feed on a variety of insects like soft-bodied arthropods, thrips, aphids, spider mites, springtails, leafhoppers, whiteflies, small caterpillars, tiny parasitoid wasps, termites and other flies as well.

Their vividly colored eyes come in handy too. Those compound eyes grant them a huge field of vision, which enables them to catch their prey in mid-air.

𝗚𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗻𝗮𝗶𝗹 🐌 (𝘓𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘢 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘢)

The giant African land snail is native to East Africa. They were later introduced in Indo-pacific countries for the purpose of pet trade, food resource and some accidentally.

When full grown they can reach up to 20 cm in length which makes them one of the largest terrestrial snails ❗

Snails have one of the best safety mechanisms wherein they pull back their eye capsule into their retractable tentacles which protects them from harm.

That being said, in the unfortunate event that harm should come to their eyes, their superpower is that they can regenerate their eyes 😲

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 (𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘵𝘢 𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘢)🪳💛

Cockroaches are the most despised and misunderstood creatures in the world. Most people don't realise the vital role they play in our ecosystem.

Cockroaches are detritus feeders, meaning they feed on decaying organic matter, which traps a lot of nitrogen. This untouched nitrogen is then released back into the soil in the form of their faeces and helps in nourishing plants.

They are an important source of food for numerous birds, mammals and reptiles, thus playing a vital role in the food chain.

The only problem with cockroaches is that their colonies grow exponentially which often leads to a huge infestation 😬
