The past three days, there has been a group of Bigg's Orcas visiting Penn Cove in the afternoons. Today (7-14-26), they decided to switch it up and do a morning visit.
When I saw the update that they were heading west from Polnell Point, I decided to give Long Point a go. They previous days, they had come in along the north shore, so I wasn't holding my breath.
I parked and saw them at a distance, but aiming right for the point. They went down and after what felt like hours (but was actually only several minutes) T37 Pizza Fin and T34B Sonder popped up about 100 feet from the point. I was so excited! I had my camera trained on them, when suddenly, I heard a breath MUCH MUCH closer. T34A Pachamama and T34A2 Amaru were feet off the tip!!
I took a short video of them, so so close, before going back to taking photos.
Be sure to watch the video with sound..... their breaths are amazing (please ignore my excited gasp...!
Happy World Orca Day!!
