Today (7-21-26), while driving home from Oak Harbor, I drove by Swan Lake. There has been several American White Pelicans spending time on the north side of the lake. But today, there was an additional large flock, close to the road on the south side of the lake.

Heres a few photos and a really cute video. Make sure to stay to the end of the video to see one pelican repetedly tossing back a fish.

SOOOOO CUTE!

The past three days, there has been a group of Bigg's Orcas visiting Penn Cove in the afternoons. Today (7-14-26), they decided to switch it up and do a morning visit.

When I saw the update that they were heading west from Polnell Point, I decided to give Long Point a go. They previous days, they had come in along the north shore, so I wasn't holding my breath.

I parked and saw them at a distance, but aiming right for the point. They went down and after what felt like hours (but was actually only several minutes) T37 Pizza Fin and T34B Sonder popped up about 100 feet from the point. I was so excited! I had my camera trained on them, when suddenly, I heard a breath MUCH MUCH closer. T34A Pachamama and T34A2 Amaru were feet off the tip!!

I took a short video of them, so so close, before going back to taking photos.

Be sure to watch the video with sound..... their breaths are amazing (please ignore my excited gasp...!

Happy World Orca Day!!

Yesterday (7-12-26), I spent the afternoon with friends and orcas. The T34s, T37s and T65A5 hung out in Penn Cove, where they had us humans literally running back and forth on Madrona Way. And driving back and forth from the north and south shore roads.

They perused the Mussel raft buffet, where they snagged at least 3 seals, Then made their way deep into the cove and gave us a lovely past by Captain Whidbey Inns dock. Before taking a nap while leisurely making their way out of Penn Cove.

It was awesome that so many people got to see them today!

WARNING!!!!! The last couple pictures are Indy playing with his food!!

Its been a while since I've spent a day with whales. Well, today (7-7-26) was the day. I spent it with friends and the T34s and T37s traveling up the west side of Whidbey. They were pretty close and quite surface active. Doing lots of socializing and rolling around on each other. It was a beautiful day.

As I said in my last post.... June 4-11 I went on a Carnival Cruise to Alaska, with my BFF from Middle/High School. This post includes the wildlife I saw. I saw 100s of distant Humpbacks from the Cruise ship (no photos of those ones, as they were too far). But we did see a momma Black Bear and her cubs from the ship (video).

I went on a whale watch out of Juneau (which made me uncomfortable with all the zipping around we did, I would not do a whale tour up there again). The HB phots are from the tour, I have included IDs of the whales Happywhale was able to ID. As well as the Sea Lions (they were a riot to watch!).

June 4-11 I went on a Carnival Cruise to Alaska, with my BFF from Middle/High School. Let me tell you.... cruising is so fun!! I had an amazing time and the scenery in Alaska is absolutely breathtaking. I would love to do it again.... but I will need to wait a while.... Indy was a complete mess without me.

This will be the scenery and towns post.

I will follow up with the Animal (Humpbacks, sea lions and bears!) post in the near future.

Yesterday (6-16-26), I spent much of the morning searching for orcas I suspected were in the area. Indy and I started our morning at Long Point and worked our way down the east side of Whidbey, to Glendale. We had lunch, then went to the west side of the island to see some very distant tiny triangles. As they were swimming even further away, I got word from a friend that there were orcas in Penn Cove (there they are!). Off we went.... back to Long Point.

Friends and I followed the 9 orcas back and forth and all around Penn Cove for a few hours. They were surface active and seemed to be having a grand time playing in the waves the strong wind was producing. It was a great finish to the day!
