I offer a senior experience where we spend a couple hours, adventuring, taking our time, leisurely changing outfits/touching up makeup and, overall, making it an event.

This senior, however, is planning multiple senior sessions throughout her year and wanted less bells and whistles for her destination session with me.

We shot this session as a Beach Frolic, which is a 45ish minute shoot at one of my favorite beach accesses (I switch it up based on time of year and needs of each client).

As you can see, this short and sweet shoot gave us plenty of time to capture so much loveliness and even switch up outfits (though in a less than leisurely way).

We’re going back-to-school shopping tomorrow and I am both relieved at the prospect of returning to some sort of routine and completely amazed that summer is nearly over.

When I moved to the island nearly 10 years ago, I came from the land of open shade and diffused light. There, in Ohio, an overcast day created a giant softbox and simply served to make the landscape look that much more rich and saturated.

Though all that exists here in North Carolina as well, nearly all my clients want magical pictures on the seashore and, when you are, primarily, a natural light photographer like me, you, for the most part, avoid shade and have to learn to shoot in full sun.

Furthermore, that cloud cover that is desirable in Ohio, doesn’t have the same effect on the seashore…so, for me, the more sun, the better!

All this to say that learning to shoot here on Oak Island in a way that matched my Ohio aesthetic was quite a learning curve and it makes me greatly appreciate all the picturesque places, with ideal light throughout the day that I loved to frequent in Ohio.

So, enjoy this lovely Ohio light and the precious family it is illuminating!
