🏗️ Shahan Prairie — Watching a Community Take Shape
I’ve been documenting the progress at Shahan Prairie from the air, and these construction flights will ultimately be combined into one hyperlapse showing the development coming together from the ground up — roads, lots, infrastructure and homes taking shape over time.
What’s especially interesting now is what I can see through the enterprise mapping side of these flights. The road network is becoming clearly defined, the individual roads are now identifiable( I can even see the names now!), and the overall layout of the development is starting to come together.
As those roads take shape, I’m also paying close attention to grading, elevations, drainage and how the finished road surfaces are being established and verified. From an aerial perspective, there are areas that raise questions for me about how that process is being handled.
That’s one of the reasons I’ve become so interested in construction mapping. A drone isn’t limited to taking progress pictures. With the right equipment, the same site can be documented and mapped repeatedly so that changes in terrain, drainage, road grades and overall site conditions can actually be measured and compared throughout construction.
For now, this is another snapshot in time.
When all of these flights are put together, we’ll be able to watch Shahan Prairie being built from the air — from dirt to finished neighborhood.
