Went to Viles Arboretum and had a great walk along the trails. Here is a shot of a crab apple tree. Enjoy this fall weather. This shot is actually 15 shots stacked on top of each other... a process of taking only the in focus parts of each photo and creating a single photo with all the best parts of the other 14.

Went over to Viles Arboretum this morning in Augusta. If you have not been, it is a great place to nature watch. They have groomed trails and great information boards along the trails.

Here are a few shots from my walk-about.

From a few weeks ago - An adult male Eastern Bluebird - if you see an Eastern Bluebird in your dreams, it is said to represent happiness, joy, fulfillment, hope, prosperity, and good luck.

I've found these Glossy Ibis only in one area here in Maine -- at the Scarborough Marsh. To be fair, I've never looked anywhere else. At the marsh, they tend to hang around the Great Egrets. Other than the Bald Eagle, this is probably my favorite bird to photograph.

Fun fact that may only interest me: In ancient Egypt, the sacred ibis symbolized Thoth, the god of wisdom and learning.

Went over to the boat launch in Belgrade - not much happening, but it was nice to sit, relax, and take in the scene. Found a single Mallard catching a few winks. The Mallard duck is the most abundant and widespread of all waterfowl. **Remember, for optimal viewing pleasure, be sure to view this full screen.

Went down to Scarborough to visit the trails - they tend to have a nice selection of birds to photography. I was able to photography a couple new species I had never seen before. A good morning.

Another early morning on the trails - over 250 shots taken and I came away with a chipmunk and a blurry chickadee pic... lol. It was still fun though. Here are a couple shots from the morning walkabout.

Here is another before and after - meaning what the photo looks like straight out of the camera with zero editing and then after I edit the photo. I thought this sparrow was pretty cool, peeking over the leaves. I was probably 300 feet away when I took this photo.

Ever wonder what goes into capturing that semi-perfect bird photo? I spend hours out there snapping hundreds of shots, but only a few make the cut! Focusing can be tricky, and lighting isn't always ideal. Here's a look at a mallard shot that was a little dark, and how I tried to salvage it!

Not a ton going on in terms of song birds at the trail so I had to take what I could get - this means a lot of robins, song sparrows, and red wing black birds. I figured I would share both the male and female red wings... I saw fellow photog Ryan Emery at the trails. Good to catch up. **Remember, if you like to easily identify birds use the Merlin app. It is fabulous.
