I’m really sad to hear about the Pacifica Pier. I went by the pier to whale watch twice last year; the last time in October. I was planning to head back later this month to go whale watching again. I can’t even begin to imagine how devastating this is for the community. I took this picture of the pier on March 2, 2021. It is, to this day, one of the most epic sunsets that I’ve seen from the California coast.

It’s been a crazy month and hope to begin posting again more regularly. I hope you’re all doing well.

We got some much needed rain over the last few days. It seems the rain followed me back from Hawai’i. 😅. It looks like the rainbows did too! Seeing rainbows in California is not as common as it is in Hawaiʻi. It was beautiful seeing a rainbow with some spring flowers. You don’t get spring flowers on the trees in Hawaiʻi like you do in California so it was cool to see them both at the same time. An unusual thing about this rainbow was seeing colors under violet in the inner arc. It looked like there was some orange or green below the violet. The weekend is almost here! Hope you’re having a great week.

A week ago, I attended my aunt’s funeral in Hawaiʻi. The weather definitely matched the mood. It rained all 4 days we were there. The entire state has been hit hard these last two months with rain storm after rain storm. The ground is saturated and I didn’t dare go to many places that I usually go to when I visit. Many communities are still cleaning up from the previous storms and there were rockslides with this storm. I couldn’t even visit my parent’s gravesite as the cemetery they’re in was closed due to the weather my entire visit. 😢.

A silver lining to all of the rain were the waterfalls flowing down the Koʻolau Mountains. It is truly spectacular when it happens. The last time I caught them was back in 2018 when I happened to be there when Tropical Storm Olivia got very close to the island.

A week ago, I left for a short trip to Hawai`i to go to my aunt’s funeral. She was an aunt on my mom’s side of the family. While there, I saw that another cousin on my dad’s side had been posting about being in Hawai`i. I texted her and she was there with her new fiancé for a Bare Knuckle Fight to be held the next day. We had not seen each other in seven years and met up. It was my first ever exposure to the world of Bare Knuckle fighting. My son and I got to see the weigh in and my brother in law and I headed to the fight the next day. We got to see the first-ever bare knuckle fight with women in Hawai`i. The two women, Hazel Nahienaena and Kat Rabellizsa, went the distance and the fight came down to a decision by the judges. It was intense but fun. These fighters are tough! I can’t imagine fighting without any sort of protection for my hands or body. Special thanks to my cousin and her fiancé for a nice break from the sadness of the funeral.

One week ago today, April 7, I dropped my older son and husband off at SFO for their trip to Chicago and Indiana for soccer. I had my first ever time alone at home without my family. It was a little over 24 hours until my younger son came back from his school trip to Washington DC. I spent that time eating foods they don’t like to eat 😅 and took some pictures down at Baker Beach. I had not been to that beach in 8 years and the ice plants were in bloom. It was definitely weird not having my family with me. Since I didn’t have them to take pictures, I took pictures of the bumble bees instead. 😂. I really enjoyed the sunshine before the rain. Hope you’re having a great week.

It has been an insane week. The kids’ had their spring break this week and for the first time we had different places to be. I’ll share about our break in a bit. I need to share this sunset from last Sunday, April 5. It was Easter and we were driving home from grandpa’s house when the sky lit up. I’m a sucker for a beautiful sunset. 💜. Hope you all had a great weekend.
