Bobolink. Eagle Point Wildlife Management Area, Derby, Vt
Eagle Point Wildlife Management Area (WMA) protects over 200 acres of crucial grassland habitat in Derby, Vermont, specifically delaying mowing until late July or August to let ground-nesting Bobolinks raise their young.
Plumage: In breeding season, males have a striking inverted color pattern with a black face and underparts, a bright yellow patch on the back of the neck, and white patches on the back and shoulders.
Habitat: These songbirds prefer open grasslands, meadows, and hayfields to nest and forage.
Migration: They make an incredible long-distance migration each year, traveling thousands of miles between North America and wintering grounds in South America.
