Some sessions change you forever. This was one of them.

I’ve known Liz since I lived in Baltimore - we used to work together at Urban Outfitters.

Her shoot was 2 years ago this month and I lovely remember her sharing about her experience with divorce. This was right at the time where I started to really question how much longer I could stay in my own marriage. Seeing how she came out of such a difficult situation like the bad ass that she is honestly inspired me. It’s not every session with every client that I receive insight into my own life, but this was a really life-changing session for me.

I’ve worked with a lot of women who booked sessions after getting divorced. Not all stories inspired me. Not all stories left me feeling like I could be brave enough to make the change in my life that I needed to. That’s why my session with Liz totally changed my life and seeing another woman like me, experience the same feelings I did, but come out on top and in control of her life — it was powerful.

I am so lucky to get to know my clients deeply and we all have a ripple effect on people’s lives. This was one that deeply deeply healed me and changed me in ways I never imagined. I love you Liz!

My body image struggles are quieter these days, but every now and then they come back like I haven’t been doing this work for most of my life.

Last night I taught my first ever Pilates client in my bo***ir studio, which felt wildly full circle. The same room where I’ve spent years helping women connect with their bodies through photography became the place where I helped someone connect with hers through movement.

Afterward, I stayed on the floor practicing what I’m learning; rounding my spine, extending, tucking my pelvis, engaging my core & somewhere in the middle of it, I stopped evaluating my body and started being fascinated by her.

I noticed how cute my tummy looked. The curves that showed up when I moved. The muscles underneath the softness.

And yes, my stomach is still the hardest part of my body for me to love. Someone else might look at it and wish it away. But it’s also where my puppy rests his head. Where my boyfriend places his hands when we hold each other. It fills with joy when I can’t stop laughing at 1am on the couch with my bae. It houses my organs, expands when I breathe, softens when I relax, and moves with me through my life.

My body is not an aesthetic project.

In a world increasingly obsessed with shrinking bodies, I’m trying to choose something different. What anyone else does with their body or healthcare is not my business, but I can acknowledge that sometimes I still wonder if I should be disappearing too.

Instead, I want to go deeper.

Learn my body. Strengthen it. Move it. Photograph it. Appreciate the softness alongside the strength.

This body has carried me through grief, joy, change, heartbreak and healing.

She’s alive. She’s breathing. She’s mine.

This is also my body. And I’m going to keep choosing her.

I don’t normally bat an eye at celebrity deaths, but this one genuinely hurts. Dolly was so much more to me than an artist I loved. She carried the kind of energy I wish there was more of in this world. She was a real girls’ girl—kind, funny, loyal, unapologetically herself, and incredibly generous without ever seeming to need anyone to make a big deal about it. She rooted for people, loved fiercely, gave because she could, and showed women that you could be glamorous, ambitious, sexy, smart, ridiculous, wildly successful and still just be a really fu***ng good human.

She was always on my private list of people I dreamed of photographing someday, and it hurts knowing that “maybe someday” is gone. More than anything, she embodied the kind of woman I strive to be: someone who roots for other women, gives when she can, loves deeply, stays loyal, stays kind, and never dims who she is. We need more of that energy in this world, and I think the best way to honor her is to carry some of that spirit forward in the choices we make and the kindness we extend to others. And after all those years of loving Carl, I really hope somewhere, somehow, they’re together again. 🤍 What a woman. What a legacy. Thank you for inspiring women (and people) worldwide to be themselves.

Your brand photos don’t have to be boring. Thankful for clients like STEPH TAYLOR | SPRAY TAN DADDY who bring the ideas and concepts that allow me to challenge myself. Studio lighting outside at 9pm at a park. Styling fake blood, dirt, leaves and twigs on her skin and into her hair. Directing like it’s a damn movie.
