‼️Eastern Kansas! Large hail and potentially intense tornadoes tomorrow! ‼️

Tomorrow is shaping up to be an active day for parts of Eastern Kansas. This is an all hazards day, with the potential of large hail, damaging wind, and a heightened risk for strong to potentially intense tornadoes. The SPC has outlined a moderate risk of severe weather for Monday, 5/18.

Today is a fantastic day to review your severe weather plan! Make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Yesterday was a tornadofest near Lubbock, and with an identical risk today we’re on our way to see what we can find.

Mason and I forewent the MS/AL chase today. Hard to justify an 18 hour drive home on a Sunday before the work week.

Drove US-90 back to El Paso, though. Well worth it.

Echoing what we said yesterday, today is the time to prepare. Have a plan of action. Have multiple warnings.

Rare day 2 high risk issued for portions of Mississippi and Alabama with multiple violent tornadoes expected. Any tornado that touches down tomorrow has the potential to be DEADLY.

Additionally — strong to violent tornadoes are possible outside of the high risk area. Be weather aware, and have a safe place ready to go.

LA, MS, AL friends — Saturday looks to be a rough one. Now is the time to plan! Do not wait to have a place of safety. If you’re in a mobile home, make sure you contact a friend who will let you use a hard, sturdy building to shelter in. Mobile homes are NOT safe to shelter in from a tornado or any strength.

Strong to violent tornadoes are expected! Ensure you have WEA alerts turned ON on your mobile device. Weather radios can be bought at most hardware stores. Make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings!

Get to know us!

My husband has been chasing tornadoes since 2010, and I began chasing in 2021. We started chasing together in 2022 and after falling in love under the meso, we tied the knot in 2023. Although we don’t get to chase as much as we'd like living in El Paso, we make the most of every opportunity. Between us, we’ve seen around 90 tornadoes so far, and we’re hoping to move back to the plains soon to get back into the action.

Days 6 and 7 are shaping up to be big severe days! Strong winds, large hail, and tornadoes look likely. Still hammering out small uncertainties, but chase mode looks to be activated for Friday, and we’ll be hitting the road by Wednesday night!
