Such beautiful results! In these final moments, we get to see what miraculous things you can create. Whether it was something that took months of planning or just fell together as if by the Clay Fairies, every piece has a story and they all look magical!

Thanks goes to Norman Firehouse Art Center for hosting June's monthly meetup for the Oklahoma Clay Guild.

If you have an interest in joining the guild, please let us know! Or just join us at this month's meeting on July 18th or meetup on July 30th (message for details!)

Look at those colors!

From here, everything has to be cleaned. More colors hide behind the bits of charred slip and ash. The heat has transformed everything into it's very own unique piece of art.

After all the stressing, the waiting is over! The first look at the magic of Raku is stunning! This is the moment when pieces are removed from the reduction chamber and immediately submerged into water. And there they will sit until the are cool enough to touch.

Head over to the next post to see how they turned out!

Welcome to the world of Raku! Once the glazes on each piece are fully molten and glossy, they are carefully removed from the blazing kiln using Raku Tongs and immediately plunged into a reduction chamber. These chambers are filled with various materials, all causing different (yet still unpredictable) reactions with each piece. Some have paper, saw dust, hair, wood chips, or even banana peels!

We have to start with the amazing people that make up the Oklahoma Clay Guild! Everyone has an eye for something magical, but this community has an eye for turning clay into art with A LOT of heat.

Dave brought us all together, but everyone brings something unique to the guild! Such an inclusive space to be 🌈 The kids had a blast with tie die and corn hole, while we munched on so many variations of delicious food!

Casey, from Norman Firehouse Art Center, handled most of the HOT stuff you can see in the next post! 🔥 Don't worry, everyone stayed hydrated!
