Words don't quite cover how much Maggie Hill means to me. To know her is a gift, but to be her friend truly enriches your life. Our connection goes back to meeting in Africa, and that bond stays strong no matter what. Time with Maggie always leaves me renewed. The world is a better place because she’s in it, loving and living so authentically, and I'm deeply grateful for her friendship.

Once we parked the motorcycle, we spent two hours exploring Vercelli through a photographer’s lens, slowing down to observe the structural rhythms, light, and quiet geometries of the city.
Stepping off the sunlit streets, dark vaulted corridors offered an immediate, cooling respite from the mid-day heat, guiding us into hidden interior courtyards rich with fruit trees and lush greenery set against classic Giallo Parma walls.
Moving further through the quiet residential streets, my eye caught the architectural details mounted high above, like a street plaque honoring Santa Ugolina di Vercelli, a 13th-century hermit who lived a life of quiet solitude here. That same sense of calm extended right into Piazza Cavour, where the soft mid-morning light illuminated a gentle palette of pastel blues, greens, apricots, and beiges. Even the ground invited visual study, with smooth stone tracks seamlessly inlaid into the cobblestones to create an elegant pathway for local cyclists.
Whenever I explore spaces like this, my photographer’s eye naturally shifts to a personal reflection. I find myself imagining what it would feel like to inhabit the frame as a local resident, setting up a studio, adapting to the daily tempo, learning the language, and building a creative life here. Two hours was barely enough time to scratch the surface. I know I need to return to Vercelli, take my time, and document more of this city in its present moment.

I videoed the braised beef tongue with bonito in vermicelli by Cristian and Emmanuel. Honestly, the entire experience was incredible and is still the most memorable meal I have ever had. The heat off the beef made the bonito flakes physically dance on top of the dish, adding this fascinating, artful rhythm to the plate. It was a beautiful detail to just sit and watch before we even took the first bite.

The close-up framing of the municipal entrance shows off the crisp architectural symmetry that grounds the town center. There's a clean, dignified character to these civic entryways in small Italian villages, where a simple arch or detailed doorway becomes the focal point of daily public life right beneath the shadow of the castle.

Before heading inside to that incredible view, I had to stop and frame the architectural lines of the entrance to Bar Ristorante La Chance. There's a beautiful, understated way these village entryways invite you in—the hard geometry of the stone walls opening up to a space that completely alters your perspective once you step through. It marks that sharp transition from exploring the tight, historic streets of the village to suddenly feeling completely suspended over the open valley.
