I had the FX5 pre-order page open Wednesday night. Then I slept on it and asked: what in my last six projects would this have actually fixed?
Honest answer, for me.. not much. Not a knock on the camera. But where I am and probably where many are.
If you’re in the same spot, what has moved my work most:
Light first, recover second. RAW gives you room to fix underexposure. A practical and a bounce card means you don’t have to.
Match your color temp. A lot of “cheap camera look” is 3200K and 5600K fighting in one frame. Free fix, huge difference in skin.
Know your base ISOs. 800 + variable ND for daylight, 12800 when it’s gone. That’s carried whole jobs for me.
Nail exposure in camera. Beat every post workflow I’ve tried, on every body I’ve owned.
The FX5 raises the ceiling. It does not raise your floor.
Still might buy it. But it’ll be a decision, not a reflex.
