The intersection of art and life is something I’ve often talked about. Today I’m reflecting on how grateful I am for 28 years at Laurie and Charles Photographs. It is a business built lovingly, creatively, passionately, skillfully, with longevity I could not have imagined. I started my career doing portraits of family members and friends, creating art from the world around me. Seeing through a camera lens has always been magical for me. The work has taken me around the world many times over. I have photographed countless beautiful places and faces.
💙
It is the faces I remember most. Faces that bring stories, connections that have meant so much over the years.
💙✨💙
Omaha, a community I grew up in and later returned to plant seeds with my own business and family. I cherish every ounce of this. I am so grateful. Family and friends remain deeply important to me. As I write this post, the change in the air fills me with HOPE. Doing things that are new can be scary. After losing my mother Carolyn Owen Anderson, to a short battle with cancer not so long ago, I learned that life is indeed short. I also want to make a difference in the world like she did.
💙✨💙
In the coming months, I will be leaving Laurie and Charles Photographs to work on my own as Laurie Victor Kay. I will be here in Omaha creating my art, photography, portraits, video, and doing community work through healing arts. A new beginning.
✨
As I transition to this, the studio Laurie and Charles Photographs is open and active. There is so much to share in this incredible downtown space of almost 20 years.
