Laurie and Charles Photographs

Laurie and Charles Photographs Laurie and Charles crossed paths in a photo studio 25 years ago and began their visual love story side by side.

Laurie and Charles believe that it is in the most ordinary of subjects that they discover the most extraordinary.

The intersection of art and life is something I’ve often talked about. Today I’m reflecting on how grateful I am for 28 years at Laurie and Charles Photographs. It is a business built lovingly, creatively, passionately, skillfully, with longevity I could not have imagined. I started my career doing portraits of family members and friends, creating art from the world around me. Seeing through a camera lens has always been magical for me. The work has taken me around the world many times over. I have photographed countless beautiful places and faces.
💙
It is the faces I remember most. Faces that bring stories, connections that have meant so much over the years.
💙✨💙
Omaha, a community I grew up in and later returned to plant seeds with my own business and family. I cherish every ounce of this. I am so grateful. Family and friends remain deeply important to me. As I write this post, the change in the air fills me with HOPE. Doing things that are new can be scary. After losing my mother Carolyn Owen Anderson, to a short battle with cancer not so long ago, I learned that life is indeed short. I also want to make a difference in the world like she did.
💙✨💙
In the coming months, I will be leaving Laurie and Charles Photographs to work on my own as Laurie Victor Kay. I will be here in Omaha creating my art, photography, portraits, video, and doing community work through healing arts. A new beginning.

As I transition to this, the studio Laurie and Charles Photographs is open and active. There is so much to share in this incredible downtown space of almost 20 years.
✨💙
I WELCOME EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU TO REACH OUT. You have all made a difference in my life, and my family’s.
💙✨
You can book portraits in our stunning studio or on location, reorder from past photo shoots, come view artwork for sale, or just say hello.

💙
I will forever be grateful and look forward to working with you on my next visual journey.

With love,
Laurie

In honor of International Women’s Day we wanted to share photographs of two of our favorite women! Nina and Nita, sisters, my mother-in-law and aunty, swimming at their favorite pool years ago for a creative self-assigned stock shoot. Mom and Aunty do so much together, from being past owners of a Thai restaurant (which we dearly miss) to their daily workouts, living together and being the kindest women. I still remember how much fun we had during this shoot- the swim caps had us giggling like kids. Yellow is also a symbolic color in Thailand in addition to the great contrast against the blue. I just cannot get enough of the feeling these images evoke. Thank you Mom and Aunty . Here’s to all the women in the world!!!!!

Family self-portrait flashback today. Over the years we've loved how each image captures a specific moment in time, from the age of our kids to details like matching haircuts on the guys. These were captured on our downtown rooftop, Rue Montorgueil in Paris, and in our studio. Thanks to self-timer 📷and a lot of patience from and who always asked "is this a serious look?" Yes of course!!! The dresses from the 1960's were my mom's. The green one is Thai silk- and I'm afraid to say much more delicate than I'd hoped after wearing it. Evie, that tiara you insisted on... everything and more!!! Miles, the soulful expression in the third photo✨⚡️✨⚡️✨

We’re so pleased to present four new works in the upcoming on Friday, October 28th at 5:30pm. It’s an event we personally look so forward to every year. The Bemis Center and its world-famous residency + curation and programming add such depth to our Omaha community. We’ve personally met and been inspired by artists and exhibits at the Bemis over the years.
💙🔹💙
We also feel lucky to be art collectors thank to the Bemis. Our favorite and some of the first works in our art collection were purchased at the Bemis Auction. The event is truly for all styles and budgets which we love so much. (Note to self- go early and look!)
🔹🔷🔹
Each of the works we are presenting this year represent something very different to both of us. Creating artwork remains intensely personal to each of us as does our process. The works this year have a few things in common; COLOR + TRAVEL to far away places.
🔸▫️🔸
Within the four works, one might want to escape reality, read a book, wander freely, pretend they are James Bond, test their mind’s eye, question liberty, and even wonder at the beauty of our world.
🔻🔺🔻
We hope you will check out the online auction. Link to info in our bio- tickets still are still available and online buying options if you are out of town.

Follow and for more of our personal work.

We were saddened to hear the news today of Queen Elizabeth II. Her legacy is certainly immeasurable. This treasured family photo was taken in Bangkok in 1972 during the Royal visit of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. On the right of the photograph is Charles’ late grandfather Montri Koslaphirom presenting a special gift. This moment was so special to Charles’ entire family and we cherish this photograph. Rest in Peace Queen Elizabeth II. 🙏🙏🙏
